blacker black

blacker black
Would putting a blue-tinted clear over black make the black look "deeper"? Or any other type of clear? Or is there a blacker black than stock "onyx"? I'm thinking of doing this, don't know whether it needs actual re-paint (original black is in good shape except hood that has rock chips), or just some coats of clear, or what. It will also need enough new clear for wet sanding to remove orange peel.

black is blacker than factory. Most oem's mix a little brown in their black. It helps hide liitle defects that solid black would reveal. When I say most, I know gm mixes brown in their black.

You wont see anything from a blue tinted clear over black... because it's black underneath. A blue pearl over black will be visible because the pearl reflects light. Onyx black is just about as black as it gets, when I paint parts for OB cars, I use straight mixing black and it matches perfect. Just about the only way to get blacker than OB is to use single stage. But you'ld only want to do that on a non-daily driver.
