Question radiator support bar

so i wrecked my car and twisted up the radiator support, but when i took it to the body shop they said it would cost $650 to get the replacement parts, then body and paint labor on top of that...i dont have a problem with the labor...but i was just curious if you guys think that is too much to pay for that part? shold i look at junk yards? just bite the bullet? what do you all think?!? thanks in advance

You need the whole core support, or just the upper tie bar and side baffles?

i dunno if you have an lt1 or ls1 but an ls1 core support lists for $617.30 or somewhere around there and thats for the whole radiator support. how hard did you get hit and also what else got messed up?

As stated above, the part is $617. the labor is 8.1, refinish labor is 1.5. Keyed it into my estimate software and just to purchase the part, install it, and paint it is over $1100.00. Pretty much have to suck it up and do it. I wouldn't mess with a used core support as by the time you get it cut out of a viable donor car, it could be in pretty rough shape too.

agreed and then add for the hood headlights front bumper cover and anything else. like stated above the core support is not something that you should try to do as cheap as possible since its a major structural component.

just pay the few extra bucs, save the shop some headaches, remember they are the ones fixing the car, and dont want to use junkyard parts, plus after u get used rad spt and the extra labor involved in it i dont see you saving much more then a few hundred bucs

Wow id like to reply with pics and personal experience with my z and see how well we relate. My pics are shown below from hitting a concrete wall driver cut me off dont like to go there. Anyways im suprised the way ur talking it didnt push the frame back a little especially where the steel bumper is attached to the bumper brackets. Theres crease points in the frame designed to bend on impact so the car takes the hit and not u. I spent $around $2k in body parts to replace it so far and thats w/o paint. Only extra piece I got was the ss wing. I dont know if your going to replace the steel bumper, headlights, that foam padding in the bumper that helps support the bumper cover, windshield fluid resovoir and pump if messed up along with ur support and headlight brackets and misc. parts up front. Paint for my bumper cover hood and wing alone was another 1500-2k b/c they all needed resanded and primed b/c i bought a fiberglass hood as well not oem. So heres my pics how close are we?

you got a lot more frame damage, i basically rear ended a truck so when i dove under her i hit the very top of my bumper cover, headlights and hood.

Definately needs the core support, may have damage to the upper rail ends too. You need to get it torn apart to really assess the full scope of the front end damages. If you're doing this yourself, take it in to a shop and have them pull it before you cut out the core support just to make sure that dimensionally all of the under hood measurements are correct. It's much easier to pull then cut, than it is to cut then pull.

Thats how my car got fixed. If it were not for the junkyard parts the insurance would have totaled it. Basically it was a camaro cut in half minus the drivetrain shipped to the shop on a pallet, it was actually kind neat to look at.
