Default Rusted sway bar and want to paint it . . .

Hi, I have a new (used) 21mm rear sway bar that has surface rust.
I planned on sanding and then priming and painting with rustoleum spray cans. How would this hold up?

Sounds like a plan. I had my front sway bar media blasted and powdercoated and it's held up well.

Brush it with phosphoric acid (Ospho) first and let it sit over night. That will neutralize the rust. Then scotchbrite it and rattle can away!
