Once it starts, the panel has been compromised and needs to be replaced. Many people have tried various paint fixes, including special primers, etc. It still comes back.

I was told by the service rep at a GM dealer that the problem is caused by a defect in the roof. He said it develops cracks and then the glue starts to come up through the cracks.

When I bought my car in Sept. '06 there were no signs of the bubbles at all. About a year later they really had come up through the sail panel. Last week I went to a bodyshop owned by my father in law's best friend and got a quote of $1300 to replace the sail panel. If they don't have an improved sail panel replacement I don't really see the point.

Don't be so sure. I think the only hope of getting it covered is if you have an '02 that's still under the 6 year/100k mile paint warranty. Even then, lots of guys have a hard time getting them to cover it.

Yep, I have a 00 Pewter Firebird, can barely see the bubbles but it bugs tha crap out of me knowing that they're there. Only 53k on my odometer and I have records of oil changes every 3k miles, very well maintained car. I'm going to cross my fingers and pray that maybe the local dealership will do something for me since I've had them work on my car a few times and the body shop manager has a 01 TA.

1. I was told it's not a recall , it's a service notice or something of that sort . basicly so they don't have to replace everyones top 2. I found mine on e-bay (100.00) and painted myself. The guy said he had 125 of them .The 1st one was broken so he shipped me another.123 left . It's stuck on with windshield glue. I'll see if I still have his # and repost.
