Default tech 2

Has anyone used a GM tech 2?Can it be used to change things in the computer or only as a scan tool?

It is really only a diagnostic or scan tool.
Any changes made with it (which it can only do a few) go away as sooon as you remove the tool from the car.

you can reflash the pcm back to the stock tune for that vin number with it...had to have mine done. and i think you can also adjust the mileage on the odometer as well.

not sure what else, those are the 2 things that stick out in my mind

GM dealerships can use it to reprogram a pcm but only back to stock for that vehicle's VIN. To my knowledge your mileage is not stored in the PCM and is NOT changeable via the Tech2.

I HIGHLY doubt that whoever changed their mileage did it with a Tech 2. It's just a scan tool used to monitor and recorded. Dealers upload the info and it goes back into GM for analysis fun.

But changing mileage, that requires more than a scan tool. You wouldn't be thinking of doing something illegal would you?

Right on about how you can change things w/ a tech 2 but as soon as you unplug it, there goes the changes.

Get a laptop to tweek your sensors if that's what your after.

if you say that the milage cant be changed, then i guess it cant. but i could have sworn that a gm tech said you could.

ya know, I really won't be suprised at some of the tricks the techs know. I have access to one, I'll tinker and find out.

Maybe in regards to an F-body but I know of numerous people with vettes that turn on options all the time. These do not go away when the tool is unplugged.
