I got a 98 trans am ws6 with catback exhaust and o2 simulators and i will eventually do alot more stuff
but should i get ls1 edit or something else, and what else will i need to get to go along with ls1 edit or soemthing eles thank you

LS1Edit rocks. You'll need a laptop computer (preferably one with a serial port.) Get Autotap too.

Autotap is a scan tool. It will give you info like timing, knock retard, O2s, fuel cell info. plus hundreds of others.

If you plan on doing a lot of upgrades to your car (engine/tranny), then definately get LS1-edit.

Edit allows you to program your cars on-board computer to customize it (fine tune it) to your needs. The problem with EDIT is that it is not a scanner, meaning you can't tell after you made your changes how exactly you affected your car.

Thats were AutotapEFILive (or others) come in. You plug it up to your car while your driving and depending on the scanner, it reads (takes measurements) of things like STRIMS, LTRIMS, RPMS, SPEED, Incoming Air temp and so on, straight from your car.

For EDIT and AUTOTAP you will need some type of computer to run these programs. Preferably a laptop that is a Pentium 2 or better.

If they have a processor that is equivalent or better than a Pentium II I would think yes. But since most dvd players lack a CPU like that and an operating system the answer is no.

You could always use a laptop linked to the video port of the screen but if you already have a 14 inch laptop screen you would have to be a retard to look at tbe little screen!

im in the same situation, you get ls1edit from www.carputing.com. and also get in on the TR GP for autotap and efilive. i got the efilive pro edition.

im just gettin a cheap lap top; p3 500, 128ram, ect. you dont need something really powerfull to run edit and autotap.

You need autotap to use as a diagnosis tool. You can drive your car around and due simple driving as well as some WOT runs and see what your car is doing (i.e. KR, air/fuel ratio, water temp, etc.). From this info you go to LS1edit and change timing, fan activation, fuel curves etc. so that your car runs at its best temps, air/fuel ratio, and no KR. I F-ed up and bought HPPIII and will be selling that shortly to pay for edit. But I bought Autotap from Thunder and will be playing on that for a while before buying LS1edit, I am not that confident in my programming abilities.

When i recently had my car "custom tuned" by Chris Robinson (Dallas Tx.) he literally "downloaded "my factory settings (took approx 15 min.) then went & tweaked them with LS1 Edit. He then "uploaded" the new settings & plugged up his GM Scan tool (Some Huge handhelp device)
& we drove around. Part throttle, WOT, from a roll, top speed ,he did it all!!!
Went back & he plugged up the lap top again & "tweaked" some more. we did this 3X til it was perfect. I am no computer guru so i leave that to the pro's.
Anyway, it is a mod that you will definately notice.
