EFILive question...
I just bought EFILive v. 5.x and immediately upgraded to 6.2.. however, when connecting to my 1999 SS, XP OS does not see my car on the com port. Thus, I get the "SAE J1850 VPW protocol not detected" error message. To me this sounds like bad cables or maybe it's ODB II interface.
BTW, the engine is actually a C5-R (blocked) 427 but a local shop, that sold me this copy EFIlive, has had his copy of EFIlive working on my car Also, I deinstalled 6.2 and re-installed 5.x and had the same problem...sooooo, I de-installed everything and re-installed 6.2.
Thoughts???

If you download and install this on your laptop:
http://www.ttspowersystems.com/downl...ltest-full.zip
Fire up that software, and select the appropriate COM port.
Then, remove the serial cable half of the AutoTap/EFILive cable from the little black interface box. Short pins 2 & 3 together (with a paperclip, small screwdriver, etc) and run ALDLTest. That checks to see if the serial port on the laptop is accessible / working OK. If it fails, then you should probably investigate whether or not you have an infrared device enabled, a modem conflict, mouse driver / Palm Hotsync / GPS software interference, etc.
If the software passes, well, then it's not the serial port...

The EFILive web site also has autotap cable diagnostic
program for download. When you downloaded your
update from 5 to 6, you also need a new serial number
(that matches the cable); not the same as the V5 key.
When I installed software without the cable plugged
into the PC and the car (ign on), it gave me similar
looking grief (been long enough that I can't recall
specifics, just that I ended up doing the install again
sitting in the driver's seat and it was then able to do
its autodetect thing and worked).

based on what I've read 6.0 has more funtionality and it's free...however, i'm still trying to get it to hook up to my car. i'm sure it's a setting issue on my PC.
