Default Impact of Exhaust Flow on Tune

Running 3" Long Tubes into off road straight pipes then FloPro muffler, sometimes cutout before muffler (HiFlo Cats go on once a year for inspection). If I had it tuned with Cats is it worth re-tuning with the straight pipes if that's the way I normally run it or would that be a waste of time?

It wasn't a full tune. Just some tweaking at WOT.

If this is just a bolt on car..... U are fine. As long as you cruise at stoich and get good gas mileage.... I don't see why he would need a complete tune. Waste of money. Imo

It is just a bolt-on car but there were definitely some whacked settings in the previous tune. Time to check in with Frost again.

I'm sure most of your part throttle fueling is off with your hacked tune. Now, that doesn't mean YOU will know/feel difference but Steve and I can.

No, the IFR. They didn't touch the MAF at all...

There seems to be some hidden info in here, but I just want to point out that when the exhaust is free'd up (better flow) this will allow the engine to get more air in it. Depending if the car is tuned with a MAF or not will determine how far off the tune will get. If it has a MAF it will compensate for almost all of the change. If it is tuned in speed density it will change a lot and possibly go bad lean depending on the severity of change.

Just thought I'd throw that out there, carry on.

Thanks ND2RACE. Yeah there is some background here. Some dispute as to whether or not the previous owner misled me. Bottom line- I don't care about what may or may not have been done to the car in the past. I quite simply want someone who knows what they are doing to tune it, sign off on it and then I'll move on to enjoy the car until I have the bucks to do more.

BTW- I more than likely could just walk away from all discussions and continue driving it to death as I am now (there are no drivability issues immediately apparent), but I like knowing my baseline so I can progress from there.

Apart from the background issues, taking off or installing hi-flow cats is not going to make a huge difference. Fuel trimming will compensate for whatever small change in airflow there may be.

Your right but I'm getting mixed signals as to whether or not I will really benefit from a full tune. I'll likely just drop the coin anyway for piece of mind.

Lots of mysteries so a fresh tune will be worth it. Should be happening today/tomorrow.

A fresh tune would be a good idea, if you want it right
