Default 58x to 24x Wheel

I believe my new freshly built 408 has 58x wheel on it but I have an 2000 PCM any help without taken the motor back out? I used a Tech 2 scan, will not start and no RPM are showing when turning it over. Please help 214-601-6600 Jerry or a pm will do.

If your cam sensor is still on the top behind the intake, youll have to install a cam timing gear from a 2005 GTO, a LS2/LS3 timing cover and sensor, and relocate your cam sensor harness to the front of the block. Youve then converted your Gen III to a Gen IV. Then the Lingenfelter box will convert your motor back to a Gen III.

Thanks guys for your help. The cam is a Ls1 cam, the sensor is still in stock location. Will try to locate a Lingenfelter box. Thanks again to all.

Default 58x to 24x conversion

The LPE 58x to 24x conversion box needs to see both a 58x crank gear and the 4x cam gear so the 2005-2006 GTO LS2 timing gear won't work. A 2005-2006 GTO LS2 (and a 2005 Corvette LS2) has a 24x crank gear and a 1x camshaft gear (see gear "C" in image below). That timing gear produces the same signal as the rear block mounted sensor found on the Gen III engines (and the rear mounted camshaft speed sensor won't work either).

Attached are images of the different camshaft timing gears (for a 58x engine with an aftermarket 3 bolt camshaft you want gear "B").

I also included pictures of the crankshaft reluctor wheel. If you are not 100% sure what reluctor wheel is on the engine you can sometimes take the crank sensor out and look in the hole to see the tooth pattern on the wheel (or drop the pan).

I also included a picture of the timing cover that has the sensor in it for reference. All the timing cover mounted camshaft sensors are the same so any of them will work.

BTW - for the 58x crankshaft signal to work properly you also have to have the crankshaft sensor used on the 58x engines (different sensor compared to the 24x engines).

Our instructions explain this in more detail (LINK).

Thanks, for all info on this thread. The only thing wrong was a bad crank sensor, once we tried the old sensor it fired right up. I was sure it was a 24x wheel before the build but my builder said it was a 58x and he thought I was putting the motor into my TBSS so that's why he didn't say anything. Glad we tried another sensor before buying the conversion box. Thanks guys for the help.

Thanks for the info Jason. I'm about to purchase The LPE conversion box. My engine is a 09 ly6. I'm about to verify which cam sprocket is currently installed. It's going in a 99 trans am with slp Maf
