benefits of a Mail order Tune vs stock?
im in the process of getting a WS6 hood and lower air box....so with the added air....
what would be the benefits of getting a mail order tune? thats all i can afford.
will i notice a big difference?
maybe a little added HP?
my PCM has never been touched as far as that ....as far as i know

^ what he said about the a4. I recomend frost my mail order tune made a world of difference. I had my torque management turned completely off and now the car spins going into second at anything above 2500 rpm lol. Just realized you had 3:73's to if your pcm hasnt been touched your speedo should be off as well all the more reason to do it.

Well you just said the magic words..."its all I can afford"
A real dyno tune is the best but a frost mail order is probably going to be the closest you can get for mail order. Your basicaly stock so theres not much to go wrong.
If you plan on doing more mods then I would personaly wait for a tune.

Sure the lower air box will add a little more air flow but the WS6 hood is a cosmetic mod. It doesn't add any power. So if your looking for a power gain from that you won't see anything. ]And even on a completely stock car a good tuner can usually find 5-10 HP in the stock tune as every car is different and the stock tune is general. Is there anything else done to the car? If not then I would hold off on the tune until you have enough done to make it worth the price. Before you pay 100-150 for a mail order tune I would recommend that you get a air lid or save up for a nice catback exhaust system

this is what i have......
Borla catback with no plate........and an SLP Lid with KN....thats it but still have the stock trashy *** exhaust manifolds and stock crappy *** Y pipe
and now i will have the lower air box.
so you still think its a waist or money? and the gains if any wont justify the cost

It really depends on what else you are planning on doing to the car, if your done modding it then it couldn't hurt to get a tune. But if you plan on doing headers, Intake, or TB or more then I would just wait. The stock PCM has some ability to adjust to small mods such as lid and catback, but it will never adjust as much as a tune will.

yeah within the years end i plan on doing headers, full exhaust tubing, head and cam package and what ever goes along with that....but i cant do that till i sell my 87 in sig.
ive read alot about driveability changes, throttle response, some extra ponies and such...
and even Frost website says it will be good.
i have the 150 to spend....either on that or some appearance mods.

If your planning on those other mods within the next year or so I would wait as it would be a waste of 150 dollars since you will need another tune after those mods. What you have done really isn't going to effect the way the car runs at this point, so I would just add it to the mod fund

im gonna go ahead and get the mail order tune cause i just removed my air/egr so i dont want to see my SES light on all the time. so while its down this weekend for plug changes im sending the PCM out tomorrow so it doesnt even have a chance to throw a code and i should have it back by early next week cause im in NC and he is in VA.
other than the air/egr delete....
anything specific i should ask for in the tune?

Let him know your mods, what octane you'd like to run, and overall what you're wanting out of the car(performance, increased MPG, a little of both, etc..)
Most mail order tuners have an online form you fill out that lets the tuner know what you're looking for.
