Default Different year F-Body, different PCM??

I bought a roller that i am trying to piece together, it came with a pcm and a wiring harness. It didn't have a PCM bracket so I purchased one out of the classifieds here. The PCM holder I purchased is from a 2000 and my car is a 98 and I am assuming the PCM is from a 98. My question is did they change anything with the PCM between 98 and 2000 and is there any reason why my PCM seems to be too wide for the bracket?

i know the 98 PCM's are more picky than 99+ when it comes to tunning. All PCM's from certain years (99-00) (01'-02') will be different because not all ls1's came with the same size injectors or EGR ect... Mine is a 98' PCM but my motor is from a 99.

The PCMs are totally different. Physically, as well as electronically.

Does anyone know which year pcms are physically the same size? Apparently I am going to have to track down a different one.

97-98 are the same. 99-04 are the same. Actually, 99-04, as long as they're red and blue connectors, they're all the same. There's a green and blue connector PCM thrown in there that's different (primarily trucks and 04 Vettes).

Let me know what you need I have all types of PCMs in stock ready to ship. Can program for you to if needed. Can also program with latest TIS update, so you can start with the latest GM updated calibration.

Shoot me an email if interested. It's the easiest way for me to communicate. Email addy in sig.

you can use a newer style pcm on a older style harness by swapping some of the pins on it.

I would imagin you could do the same with a newer harness on a 98 pcm but IMO I would just get a different pcm and avoid the 98 all together

I would agree. If they have the ability to do it, a PCM swap would be the way to go.

I did a little reading and I am not against swapping to a newer style PCM but I dont know where to find PCM pinouts to swap the wires and I also read somewhere that the fuel gauge is a pain to get to work correctly. Is there any truth to any of this? What all needs to be done to accomplish the swap?

There's write ups on here about doing the swap.

I have searched and found no good info on actually performing the swap. Most of the threads either tell people to do a search or go off in left field about the fuel guage table. Someone help me out please...

96-97 V6 fbodys use a larger bracket like the 98.
