Default VCM suite not working properly

I got my stepdad the HPtuners vcm suite and scanner for christmas and we can not get it to work. It keeps saying 'cable not found' and he needs to get his speedometer calibrated right. It has a USB to serial conversion adapter, which the drivers are correctly installed for, so I am ruling that out for now. It is the vcm suite 1.5.0. The connector says 'Enhanced I/0 v 2.0' and the CD says Version 1.5.0. I had this working on my 99 SS and his car is another 99 SS. This version is for all 99 LS1 cars, so it should work. Can anyone help us out? He should be posting on here shortly as well. Thanks

Do you have the serial driver cable installed?

There is a serial cable adaptor from the HP tuners cable to the PC. My laptop does not have a serial cable connection.

I am also running windows 7.

You should be able to download the 2.2 version from your home screen in HPtuners website.

If that doesn't work put a screen shot up of the license info and one of the error.

The program seems to be working fine. I just had a IT guru change my com ports and check everything and the programs looks OK. We changed the serial cable to USB adaptor to a new cable with a LED and its getting a signal as the light comes on.

The interface PCB may have died in the interface as no matter what I do I get a cable unconnected error when the engine is running or the key is on. Actully it never goes away.

Wondering if anyone has any other experiences

I am having the same problem also with my serial version of hp tuners. It works fine on my old laptop connecting it directly to serial port, and windows XP.I just tried to use it on my new laptop with windows 7. I have version 2.22 loaded and also lowered usb port speed as shown on hp tuners website.Serial cable not found is what I get as well.Have correct drivers loaded for usb adaptor as well.
