Default Truck running like crap.

My friend has a truck he is working on and it is a late model s10 with a 5.3 swap 24x tooth conversion(was a 58), after market wiring harness. Have fuel and fuel pressure, have spark at coil and at spark plug, misfires randomly on 4 or 5 coils, it changes, On different coils sometimes, but acts like there is no spark or a dead cylinder. It Is also throwing cam sensor code.

Any ideas what to check? It does have a start up tune.

I'd start with the cam sensor...just a shot in the dark.

I would start with the cam sensor, also make sure you have the right cam gear on the motor. I would also check the wiring harness if possible and make sure none of it is pinched or hurt at all. Does the motor have an aftermarket cam in it?

Not sure if they checked the cam sensor already. It has the ls2 timing chain and gear. And 99% sure the harness is not kinked anywhere. It lays out like a stock harness. And forgot to mention that the truck has remote coils. Will know more when I go over to their shop this afternoon.

There are two different Crank Position Sensor pieces from GM...can be distinguished by color. One is grey, the other is (I think) black, and they are specific to either 58x or 24x reluctor wheel use. Check into it and verify you have the right one.

We have the right crank position sensor and had put in a known good crank and cam sensor. Still have issues. Any way to check that the new 24x reluctor wheel was done right?

Going to put in a different motor and see what happens this weekend. If it still happens, it's the harness.

I'd get a scanner that can do a Crank Position Re-Learn before doing an engine swap.

You guys are hard core. Reminds me of my neighbor's Vega, the engine has to be lifted just to change the spark plugs.

New motor is in and runs great. Used the same sensors, harness, and PCM, which leads us to believe it was the 24x tooth reluctor wheel was put on wrong.
