The method is the same, but you need a wideband.

If you are using a MAF there is no need to tune VE from 4000 and above, because the MAF takes over at 4000 RPM and the PCM ignores whatever the VE tables have.

There are only 2 scenarios where you want the VE tables to be tuned from 4000 and above:

1- A failed MAF under WOT or when you are at the drag strip
2- If you are going Speed density

For most people is a waste of time.

Unless your Maf fails while at wot. Then the hour of your time saves your motor

Yeah like outkast said, what happens if your MAF does fail?

Even with running a MAF, a tune is not complete until you have perfected both the MAF and VE tables. So just because it has a MAF does not mean completely ignore the VE table.

I have no idea how hp tuners is but in efi live you build a map that mirrors the Maf table using your wb Ben to populate the map. Slow steady throttle movements to cover the freq range then multiply by your Ben

Also compare your curve to a stock Maf curve when done. It should have the same shape with no spikes/ dips
