car will not run with MAF unplugged.
I'm helping a friend tune his VE table but the car will not run with the MAF unplugged. Is this simply because the VE table is so far off or am I overlooking something? It will barely idle and the LTFT's are at around 20-25 at idle. Its a 2001 LS1 using HPtuners.
Its been awhile since I have done any tuning but I dont remember having this problem in SD mode.
any suggestions

Is the MAF 5 or 3 wire? If 5 the IAT is built into the MAF and would explain why. If it's that far off multiply the entire VE table by 20%????? It's what I would do then I would tune part throttle and see where my upper tables would be at but I'd have it a bit richer before going ***** out WOT tuning.
You can force SD without unplugging the MAF, right?

High trims can also be from false trimming and they
can compound a rich error (like, say, a low end of VE
table that still looks stock while he tossed a lumpy-
*** narrow separation cam in there). MAF is not as
easily fooled and may be contributing to not-totally-
bogus airflow readings when in the picture.

without the MAF DTC, the PCM is still attempting to use the MAF.
