Default Can I do it myself?

I have a 2006 LS2/E40 that I'm swapping into an E36 ('98 3-series BMW). I've done a bunch of research and have determined that if the E40 is flashed to the OS of an '05 SSR (along with an SSR throttle pedal), I can have cruise control functionality. The OS on the GTO E40 needs the PIM/BCM in order to have cruise control.

I'll also need the typical adjustments; VATS delete, rear O2 delete, skip shift delete, etc. I've read that EFI Live also allows the PCM to be programmed with a different VIN, so I can use the VIN from my BMW.

Having zero experience with any kind of PCM tuning/programming, is it likely that I could accomplished the OS flash on my own if I were to purchase the software? Is the '05 SSR OS available for download? It seems if I were to pay someone to flash the OS and make the other adjustments (VAT's delete, etc.) I'd be halfway towards the purchase price of the software.

I just don't want to brick my PCM or otherwise screw things up. I'm an LSx newbie with zero PCM programming experience.

Thanks.

I found '05 SSR stock files in the HPTuners repository, Auto & Manual. I assume you need the manual since you mentioned skip shift.

Can't help on the other questions though, perhaps someone can or check over in the HPTuners forums.

Thanks. The only reason I was leaning toward EFI Live is for the ability to change the VIN in the PCM.

HPTuners *can* change the VIN on some OS, but IDK about that one. If the model year of the tune OS is different than the VIN model year it will cause issues. Since you want to change the manufacturer VIN as well I don't think HPT can do it.

Read this before you start flashing E40s with different year OS calibrations.

EDIT: Just realized the post on the HPTuners forum is yours. I'm assuming you never got it figured out? I would have thought you would have needed to use the GTO accelerator pedal with the GTO OS, as I've been told I need to use an SSR pedal with the SSR flash.

Here's some discussion.

The customer ended up ordering the correct E40 that a SSR uses from Speartech preloaded with the SSR calibration and I tuned that one. He did not have to change the TB or pedal which I'm pretty sure was out of the TBSS.
