Default HPT or EFI Live?

So my car is at the fabricators right now getting a gt45 mounted in the rear. My problem is that I know the car will have to be tuned and I want to be able to change things without having to pay a tuner for every little thing. I will have someone tune it to begin with though. I'm not really sure if I should get efi live or HPT. I live in the tampa bay area. Does anyone know any good tuners around here?

Also, do I have to have the same software as my tuner?

You dont have to but its much easier if you do. Also if its tuned with a custom operating system like 2 bar, 3 bar, COS#3 etc it will lock out any other software so in that case you would have to have the same software as your tuner.

I'm starting to think HPT is the way to go.

This debate runs on and on, it depends on what your planning on doing. Personally I feel hp is better for swaps because it has different functions that efi does does not. With that said in hp the way they do their pcm licensing the operating system you run on the pcm must have a matching vin and efi does not

no longer true, 2.25 has much more flexible licensing which will allow you to license pcm's that have oddball vin/os pairing combinations

That's awesome! What about segment swaps?

It's built right in now...open up the main file...open up the compare file with the same OS...pick "segment swapper"...swap away.

Thanks!! I didnt notice that feature yet. I just tried it out and it seemed to work fine on my bench harness. Thats a huge plus they finally added that.

Well it seems hpt is just stepping it up and leaving efi behind

We'd like to think we left them behind in the LS world a long time ago, we are just adding additional general features now that allow our customers to do segment swaps rather than having to send the files to us(we used to do segment swaps as a courtesy) but now customers can do them on their own making our jobs easier and more efficient

Ask the professionals what tools they have in their toolbox, almost all the good ones will own both.

Ours is just easier for most people to use.

I've been using HPT for about a day now (yeah I know, woo!) and I've already picked up on how to use it, the scanner, and a lot of the features. To me, that's pretty damn good.

I played with the EFI Live demo and while I can go back and look at it now and see that they do a lot of the same things (and some of them better - especially with the way they handle PIDs in the scanner), the editor is much simpler on HPT.
