Default aem wideband problems..... need help

Hey guys I recently have got my wideband hooked up to my car and it won't read right at all. My motor is a fresh build with a mail order tune for temporary. But my wideband is brand new and it lights up as it should but then the thing wont give me a number and the guage is pegged out at 16. Just curious if I missed something or why it would do this. I know it isn't running lean at all. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
nate

Possibly a vaccum leak? You should test the sending unit by holding a rag with brake cleaner sprayed on it and see if the gauge goes to full rich.

Ok. So a vaccum leak can cause a wideband not to work?

A bad vaccum leak would cause a lean reading, so that could be it. It also could be a faulty sending unit. Test it by placing it in a rag that has brake cleaner on it and the gauge should move to full rich. If it does, the sending unit is good. If it doesn't, the you need to replace the sending unit.

Where do you have the ground wire installed?

OP, I ground my gauge by removing the panel under the steering wheel; there is a chassis ground (a few) under there.

Ya that is exactly what I did to hook up my ground. I just took the thing out of the box yesterday so iam guessing it's a vaccum leak and not a faulty guage and sending unit

I've heard of them being faulty out of the box; not common, but can happen. It could also be the tune. Have you driven the car around to see what the readings are? You should see some movement on the gauge.

I would drive it and see what the gauge does before doing any of that, but that's just me. I'd also make sure the sending unit is not broke. Where did you screw in the sending unit? Into an existing o2 bung, or did you make a new one?

Talk to the person/company that did your mail order tune and tell them the readings you are seeing and see what they say. You would think a mail order tune would be pretty conservative and the readings would be rich and not lean. I would still take it for a test drive and see what the readings do.

Check against the narrow band oxygen sensors to see if the engine is running lean or not. I have seen a lot of car running that lean without misfiring. Sometimes a lean burn smell like a rich one so check first or try it in another car.
