Tune after getting head work done? I'm going to be doing head gaskets this winter and I was thinking about getting my heads ported and polished as long as the heads are off. Would I need to get a new tune for the car?
Yes, any time there are drastic changes to the airflow of the engine and most likely to compression you would want the tune at least checked...it will almost certainly need corrections.

Definitely gonna need a tune, you are significantly altering the amount of air going into the engine which will need compensating for.
Part throttle and idle might be ok if you have all the PCM sensors working, but full throttle will definitely need adjusting.

Looks like they are leaking already. Figured if I have them off might as well get them ported and polished. Not sure if its worth the money for what the gains might be.
If you're going to have someone dremel them out, no. If you're going to send them off for a CNC job, I'd say yes. Up to you if it's worth the coin to have it done right. Probably gain about 30 or so from AI, PRC, TEA, etc
I hear you. Too many people ask "Cousin Verne" to do it. I have a true story on that from a friend and his home AC unit that was literally repaired by previous owner's cousin named Verne. So, it sort of stuck in our vocabulary as "Total Moron Hack Job". Seen a lot of stuff ruined that way over the years
