Default Tuning question

Ok so here's the deal.I bought a trans am that had been upgraded by the first owner.I'm the third thing is the guy I got it off of didn't know about cars. he's not a car guy so all I know about the car is what he was told about it. it has all bolt on's plus a comp 228r cam. it has some 706 heads that have been PP's. ok so here's my question I've added a few things to it and plan on adding a couple more. and I had planed on doing a mail order tune. but I don't know how to find the static compression and or dynamic compression. and from my understanding I actually need to know what was done internally to figure that out. so am I screwed to the point where I'm gonna have to pull the engine to figure this out? Plz anybody let me know any help would be much appreciated thanks

Default Tuning question

Why get a mail order tune? Do what you want to the car then take it some where and get it tuned.

Why do you really need to know static/dynamic compression? It will not change your tune, so unless your doing something super different, and looking for every last HP, it really isn't going to change anything.

In order to know your static and dynamic cr, yes, you will at minimum pull the heads. You have to know if the piston is in or out of the hole and exactly how much, you need to know what pistons, relief size, head gasket thickness and how many cc's the chamber is.

Well honestly a mail order tune is the easiest thing for me right now better then $500 bucks and a 3 hour drive

Well the only reason I'm asking is cause one of the first questions on the order form is what's your static compression or dynamic compression so I just assumed that's something they need to know in order to tune the ecu

Exactly what have you done/added to the car or changed on the car?

modded cammed car with more bolt ons I couldn't imagine trusting a tune that wasn't arrived at with real time scan data and wideband readings - pennywise/pound foolish running on an educated guess

Put a wide band on it and tune it your self.

I would not even consider paying $500 for a tune that i can do myself.

A mail order tune is like licking someone elses lolly pop. Not gonna be right for your ride.

In my experience you can't tune car in one sitting (you can get WFO close).
It takes some fiddling for the last parts.
