Default Idling n RPM problems

Just recently my ls1 started idling differently with the rpms fluctuating up and down. Everything was fine last time I had started it so Im not sure what happened. I've replaced the plugs and Im about to replace the inline fuel filter... there was no change after replacing the plugs. At some points it just dies out, but I can easily start it back up. Anybody have an idea what might be going on?

May possibly have to clean and/or replace the IACV.

Also check for air leaks

Right, all of that, and also check the line connecting your map sensor, sometimes the vacuum line develops a crack. If you are a maf sensor, then 2x boost leak test the system (even if you have no boost, a pressure leak test is still agreat way to ensure MAF sensor performance)

All sounds good, I'll start with these recommendations and post back with results. This forum rocks! Most of my Google searches lead back here.... lots of info and knowledge. Thanks for the feedback!

Boy was I wrong about the part prices. So I replaced the MAF with no results. I've ordered the IAC and will put the results up on Friday after I receive it.

With these kind of prices I think Id rather find an air leak....lol. $120 for the MAF, $100 IAC, $180 EGR....

Have any logs? In particular IAC counts and spark timing variability?

that's what I'm saying. You would have been money ahead to take it to a shop and have them diagnose it or learn how to do it yourself.

If you have a scanner and/or data logger and can give some information about what's going on, people are going to be more willing to help you and you won't have to SWAG. Scientific Wild *** Guess.

I'm in the exact same boat. I haven't bought parts yet but I've cleaned everything listed above. Worst part is in the middle of troubleshooting for this issue the car doesn't want to start now. Battery is good, relays, starter, vats, fuel pump.. thinking about burning the car down.

Ok MAF replaced, IAC replaced and everything else cleaned. I cant run a OBD because of the engine swap from a Firebird to a jeep (it wasn't set-up) unfortunately. Will a shop run a diagnoses, tell me the problem and send me on my way to fix it? I did that once and not only was charged but was treated rudely.

What are you using for an PCM? Is it stock and tuned with something like HP Tuners or aftermarket like Holley or MS3?

Ok so one last go around today and I find a little valve thingy that looks like it should have a hose connected to it but I cant find one, so I think maybe just maybe it suppose to have a rubber cap on it. (It's located on the back of the block in between firewall) So I find a rubber cap put it on and Wala! it runs great again!!! thanks to all those that chimed in, I 61 years old and still learning
What is the name of that thing anyways, what is it called and do?

Sounds like it could be the vacuum port to run your AC. Might want to verify your AC works and your vent controls work

Could also be your AIR system port, but I've not known that to cause idle issues. Just an annoying screeching sound

Never had AC, just a heater, could be why it was just capped off.
