HPTuner questions
Can I use HP Tuner on top of my current LS1 Edit tune without losing it?
With the scan feature, can I get an SES light, plug in, read and reset to clear?
If I mess up the tune and my car runs like crap:
1-Can I flash back to the Edit tune?
2-Can my LS1 Edit friend still plug into my car and make Edit changes?
Anyone have a phone number I can contact HP Tuners for info/order?
Obviously I have a good tune from a good friend.
I am new to this but want the abilty to tune on my own and the HP is my choice. I just need to be sure I am safe before I buy....
If not I will just leave my Edit tune alone and stop changing things

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Edit files are encrypted and can't be read by HP Tuners.
They don't have a phone number, email and forum support only (which they are very good about replying). They all have day jobs too.

As long as your PCM isn't locked you can use our product to edit it...
We just read/write/edit the PCM. You should be able to use either product on the same PCM. Our product will only open files read with our software though. We save files in unencrypted binary format (exactly as it is on the PCM).

Keith, so basically you could go into a pcm ( that is already programmed) and change the timing for a nitrous run and then change it back after the run and not loose your original program? Does that sound right?

First you would use "VCM Flash" to read the tune
from the PCM. "Save-As" it, and it's yours forever.
Then modify the .bin file w/ "VCM Editor" saving-as
a new .bin file, and stuff it back in w/ "VCM Flash".
Voila, new tune. You can always load back up the
original you saved.
Writing takes 28 seconds with any decent laptop
(like my top-o-da-line 266MHz Thinkpad) which is
less time than you'll sit in line waiting for your time
slip probably....

So to the best of your knowledge, my LS1 edit tune is not encrypted, and can be flash read by HP Tuner?
I can then "save as" Edit tune1.bin
This is my saving grace fall back tune.
Then I make a few changes with HP and write them to the PCM and "save as" HP tune-1.bin
As Keith said, after that say I end up at my friend house and he plugs in LS1 edit makes a few changes and he writes them to my PCM.
I get home, the car is running so sweet with the HP tune and the Edit tweaks I can again flash read and "save as" HP Tune-edit tune1.bin
Sound feasable? Sharing the PCM with HP and Edit like that?

If you change your PCM with another utility, just make sure you re-read it with our utility first before you go and make further changes.
Our program does not lock or encrypt the PCM so other utilities should be able to modify what is on there as well. I can't speak on behalf of other programs out there though. If they do not lock the PCM, then it is open for business (including with our product). If they lock, then you are "locked" to that tuning method.

You change your converters like underwear..he dont care just let him know an he can change the tune. Thats just an example. **** look what he puts up with me jeff, your certainly not gonna bother him
I was actually thinking about trying to learn tuning for my own satisfaction/gain. Don actually inspired it!
Before I lost the use of my hands to wrench I had my yard filled with Pontiacs and was twisting rusty bolts in the rain for the love of it
I was thinking...brains..laptop...gains=cool.
First I ask lot's of questions, like here, and then decide.
Don's been helping me think this through too - but I'm glad you popped in to tell me I'm welcome
I'll see you Saturday with your brakes and so Don can adjust for my new undwerwear - I mean converter
Oh - and you DO bother him
