Exclamation HP Tuners Pro or Standard?

Yeah I'm going to beat the horse... Yes I've used the search im just looking for a more in depth reasoning.

I'm in the process of a 4.8 gt45 build but now im at the cross road of which tuning software to use. Every thread ive searched everyone says they wish the bought the pro. The question is do I really need the pro? This will be my first go round of tuning and the only vehicle I will be tunning in the near future. I dont see the benefits of having the built in data logger as this will just be a fun street car, so having the laptop wont be a problem. Will not having the pro make it so I wont be able to tune what I would need to tune?

The only benefit I know of, is being able to log
external instruments (like, I have wideband O2
meter, electric fuel pressure, and accelerometer
in my kit bag).

If you don't know what is, you don't know what
needs done.

There are workarounds like hijacking other PCM
inputs and making it your data concentrator bitch.
Maybe this appeals to your budget, but in the big
scheme of things you're trading labor and so on
for convenience and maybe at a net loss.

I find the standalone logging kinda cute but not
a real big benefit, my laptop has adequate battery
life and I often change my mind about what needs
logged, after the first one; changing still needs a
hooked up computer.

If you can't tell, I recommend the top shelf hardware
because you will probably tool up, not down, as you
push into tuning.

I don't know, but I thought serial connections were sort of removed from v3... so if that's the case, you need pro to log a wideband.

And the datalogging is nice if you do it at the track. You can't have your laptop in the car to datalog.

Re laptop at the track:

I have a 10' USB cable and just slide the laptop under
the seat, nobody ever noticed. Of course I do not get
more than the cursory "tech inspection" at Funday
Sunday (like, helmet and shirt with sleeves, good to go).

standalone logging....i'm not so worried about at the track.

it's dialing in the rest of the tune while driving around for a couple hours...kills my laptop battery and if a cop sees me looking at it while driving he'll be happy to crap on my bank account.

I like being able to get two logs in a day. To and from work. Then download and study

Standard. I switched to Pro and never use the inputs. Ac pressure sensor is still hooked up for the wideband. The standalone logging is cool I guess, but if I'm logging I will probably be making some type of adjustment anyways so the laptop will make it out to the car anyway..

I used to have a standard, and it worked fine until 3.0 came out. I had custom pid's to log my wideband through the EGR. They removed that capability in 3.0 so I had to upgrade, it was something like $329, so in the end I spent like $829 for a pro by buying the $500 standard version first. I'd recommend just starting with the pro. Also as others have said, data logging without the laptop in the car is convenient. I used to run my laptop right on the passengers seat on test and tune day, they let you away with that, but now I don't have to. I really don't understand why they even bother making 2 models.

What? I switched from std to pro and still log through my ac pressure sensor. Did only the egr go away? That doesn't seem correct.

Using the newest 3.x version which os awesome btw.

this right here. by eliminating the standard they'd have less inventory to manufacture, track and maintain supply for. The cut of that overhead alone could drop the price of the Pro down close to std levels

I know I'm bumping an old thread but I'm trying to figure out if you can still use the a/c pressure switch/egr input to run a wideband.

You can, BUT we NEVER recommend using egr or a/c. We always recommend using serial logging if you have hpt standard.

Can you give me a link or key words to search? I'm not sure what serial logging means. Also what's wrong with using egr input?
