Default Need New VSS Ideas

Story so far:
1998 Jeep Wrangler 5.3 4L60E swap,Teraflex SYE with Jeep 3 wire VSS,Dakota Digital SGI-5E conversion box.Tried every combination of settings,PCM tune with EFILive I can think of,still no VSS signal that PCM will recognize and trans will not shift.One last kick at the can,I'm hoping that this will work and not have to rig up a 40 tooth reluctor and GM VSS,anyone have any ideas?

4L60E should have the VSS inside; why is it not suitable?
Can you see the signal and VSS power / gnd levels (like
with oscilloscope) to see if this is just a harness or bad
sensor problem? Why trying to use the other VSS anyway?

What do you know about the Jeep sensor levels relative
to GM signal format? Might be able to cobble electronics
if this were known.

This is a 4WD,so the stock truck VSS is in the transfer case,not the tailhousing as on a 2WD trans.The led is flashing on the DD box,so that indicates it is receiving a signal from the three wire VSS,just not translating it to the PCM.

How's this for an idea? Pull the 6 tooth tone wheel out of the Teraflex SYE and turn it into a 40 tooth wheel? Should be able to convert the three wire vss signal to a sine wave that the LS PCM will comprehend with the SGI-5.

Does the wrangler have ABS? You can wire the VSS to a wheel speed sensor and scale the values in the tune to work.

No ABS on this one,that idea did cross my mind.The tone ring is easy to pull out,I'll have a look at it and see what can be done,if not it will be a reluctor and VSS adapted to the TC/trans adapter as I should have just done in the first place.

I would have to check but I believe on my TJ LS swap the 4L60e to the 241R adapter had provisions to screw in a magnetic pickup. It reads off the stock 4L60e relucutor wheel on the tail shaft of the 4L60e so even in low range the trans shifts properly. I used Novak parts for my swap.

Crude,but effective.Since Teraflex has no interest in making reluctor wheels in any other configurations,I decided to butcher mine up since I had nothing to lose.Fill in the missing gaps with the mig,grind in some new notches and reinstall the now 12 tooth wheel.A bit of fiddling with EFILive, the SGI-5 and presto! Transmission shifts nicely and cheapo Summit speedo shows mph,will do some more fine tuning today,will probably see if I can get another reluctor from Teraflex to have a more permanent unit machined up.
