Default 5.3 to 4.8 swap 2005 Tahoe

Mom has a 2005 Tahoe with a 230k 5.3 that is on it's way out.

I have a 40k LR4 4.8 that I'd like to swap in. I am assuming the computer will run the 4.8, will it have any negative side effects? If possible, could it be ran for a week or two before being re-tuned? Or can it live its life as such.

Thanks.

It'll be fine to drive without a retune. Performance wise, it won't be.

Thank you. She is a 65 year old woman who loves bingo, basket raffles, the weather channel and coffee. As long as it runs well and will not be hurt, it should be fine to me.

Under most situations, the PCM will be able to adjust the fuel trims. It won't run as good as it should, but it won't hurt it driving to bingo.

OK I gotcha, so a re-tune would still be preferred to obtain the 4.8's actual potential? I figured you meant the performance wise since I am going 5.3 to 4.8.

LOL “potential” its advantage is fuel economy over the 5.3.

It will get worse fuel mileage with the 4.8.....The best thing would just get the pcm flashed over to a 4.8 then it would be just like gm made it. It will run a on a 5.3 tune though.

The swap is done, the 4.8 runs good. Hasn't been tuned yet. I used the 5.3 intake (which I believe is the same), 5.3 injectors, rails, etc. Basically just swapped in a 4.8 longblock. Does this add any complexity to the mix? Are injectors different between 4.8 and 5.3?

Same injectors as long as both were either non-flex fuel or both flex fuel.
