411 ECM V6 to V8 swap
I'm converting a 99 Camaro from V6 to a V8 and I have the 411 ECM from the 99 Camaro and another one from a 00 Z28 M6 car which I'm planning to use for the swap. Is there a way to transfer the VIN# from the V6 ECM to the V8 ECM? I do not want issues with trying to get the car inspected due to non matching VIN#s

Thanks! I'll will keep you in mind. The car is coming along ever so slowly and it's sure nice to know that when the time comes I can get this done. Gonna be on a E85 as a base fuel and then NOS with a dedicated but not sure on what fuel I should go with for this.

You cant do it with HP Tuners... I lost two credits trying.
Steve Williams (aka Frost) sent me a very detailed message after doing a P01 (0411) mail order to get my v6 to v8 swap up and running.

will explain and tell them how to be able to work with this. Normally, if a
controller like yours is setup for a 5.3/6.0/whatever, it CANNOT contain a V6 VIN
since there is no V8 matching software for this VIN, only V6. You cannot flash the
controller with a file from a V8 that has a V6 VIN in it, but what *I* can do is to
to flash it with the V8 VIn and tune it, and THEN use a different tool to change the
VIN after the fact. That let's me match it up to your truck.

This is an HP Tuners issue, not a PCM one. EFI Live, Tuner Cat, and I'm pretty sure even LS Droid and PC Hammer, will all do VIN / OS mis-match tunes

The only time the VIN will matter is if VATS is enabled and trying to verify with the BCM. otherwise if you really want a LS1 factory flash, I can do that at no cost. You just have to pay shipping both ways to Ky. I can flash a factory tune in it from an LS1 car. The VIN will not be yours, just a random LS1 car I have on file.

I do this often with LSDroid. I put an 0411 ECU and used a later OS in my 2000 car after my ECU died. HPTuners panicked with an OS/VIN mismatch when using my factory VIN. So my tune is written for an 02 Camaro and after I flash my tune, I use LSDroid to apply the correct VIN. Already passed inspection twice with this method.
