Default 4l80 Limp Mode

Hello, I was hoping someone could help me with my 4l80 install. I have attached my HP Tuners Log file and tune file. I recently added the 4l80 to my swap, followed the guide from Sloppy Mechanic and now the car is in limp mode I assume. It wont shift past 3rd. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you scanned it with a REAL scanner to pull ALL codes? The HP Tuners scanner is NOT a reliable scanner for pulling all codes and data. Pull codes. If the PCM/TCM is commanding "limp" mode, then there WILL be codes stored as to why that is happening. Or.. as mentioned above, there is no voltage to the trans and if that is the case when you scan it you might have codes for ALL the solenoids inside. If codes for all solenoids inside, then go back to checking for voltage. Otherwise... post up what codes you have.

Hey Kawa, what’s the cheapest scanner for pulling codes? I use OBD fusion app and a bluetooth pluggin to the port, but not sure if it pulls all codes? Also did you ever get my email with the tune I sent? Everything look good?

HP Tuners works just fine for pulling all codes from the PCM, especially with old Gen3 PCMs. Just looked quickly at your file and it still shows it's setup for a 4L60? What exactly did you do for your 4L80 swap?

Nic D, I have done back to back scanning using a Snap On Solus and have found on MULTIPLE vehicles that the code reader included in the HP Tuners scanner WILL NOT PULL ALL AVAILABLE CODES OR DATA from a factory GM Gen III PCM... maybe your experience is different. However, I would have to ask, have you actually used a REAL scanner, after using HP Tuners to pull codes to verify that you are/were seeing all available codes? Back to back? I have... Maybe I'm doing something different with HP Tuners scanner but it seems to exclude codes when I try to use it whereas my Snap On pulls EVERYTHING every time.

To the OP, as Nic states, your tune file stills shows that you have 4l60e data in your tune. Care to tell us how you performed the segment swap? Did you maybe just post the wrong tune?

Yes I have, maybe you are thinking of other modules in the car because HP Tuners sees all codes in Gen3 PCMs. Recently HP Tuners has added the ability to scan and see trouble codes from other modules on the serial data bus but that's mostly newer Gen4 and Gen5 GM applications.

I guess I didn’t do the segment swap correctly. Went in and double checked everything, wrote a new tune file and it works.
Thanks for the help

I use hpt more than any other tool I have for checking engine/trans codes cause its quick and easy...I have tech 2, mdi2, autel scanners and the list goes on. Havent seen discrepancy on engine or trans codes.

anyone reading this in the future,

segment swap both the transmission control segment and the transmission diagnostic segment

do a write entire (maybe even consider turning high speed off if the bus is noisy)

read the file back out and double check the segments have actually imported.

I sell carry out 4L80e's and this happens once a month.
