Default problem w/trip odometer

The other day i my trip odometer was at 999.9 on my 2000 T/A ready to hit 1000. well instead of reading 1000, the odometer automatically went right back to zero and i never even touched the reset button. Does anyone know what caused this to happen and should i get a diagnostic test performed. Thank you

You might be right my alternator was bad and causing my battery level to read low and lose battery power. i got a new alternator and i will have to wait untill i hit another 1000 miles to see if it happens again. thanks for the info do you know if they had the same recall on the 2000 model T/A ?

My 99' does that crap to.It's annoying. Here's a link that may shed some light on what it is, along with the TSB number.

better question, has anybody ever seen over 999.9 on the trip odometer?

most cars i've driven are only a 999.9 counter,

never tested the ta that far, reset per tank of ga.

I would expect it to go from 999.9 to 0. its only a 4 digit counter (xxx.x), the old analogs automagically rolled around to zero, so why not program the digital to reset to 0 when it hits 1000.

trip meter is a 4 digit gauge... this is NORMAL behavior.... 999.9 goes to 0 ... the trip meter is meant for TRIPS ... most trips are less than 1000 miles... think about it... if it was anymore than it'd be 10,000 miles... 9999.9 ... what purpose would ANYONE have for a 10k mile trip meter?

sounds like this TSB is for the tripometer resetting to 0 all the time... if the odometer reset every 1000 miles the feds would be all over GM ... and we'd all know...

trip gauge going from 999.9 to 0 is NORMAL... if it annoys you... you are not the normal... normal people don't drive over 1000 miles in a trip at 1 time...

your car is fine (wow... 10 days ... and I'm the first to provide the truth? )... wow..

FYI Nova 5 was right also... I dunno how I didn't notice this thread...

The trip meter is kinda' what I meant. The needles on all the gauges peck out, then reset to normal on nearly every start. I get a zeroed out trip meter after every restart.

I don't think my tripmeter has ever lasted long enough to see the fabled 999 mi.

My 99 TA does this also. Only when it is cold and has sat for a while. The needles sweep like a vettes and the trip resets to 0. I asked the dealer to fix it and they said they had to see it happen to find the problem. What the hell is with dealerships? Do they not read the tsb's or are they just frickin ignorant? Now I am outta warrantee so I know they won't fix it. My driver window took a chunk of the tint off for some reason. The dealer said the tint was to thick. WTF is that, the tint is 1/100th of an inch thick, and it only happened on one side! Sorry to go off on a tangent, I just get pissed when I think about the jerkoffs at some dealerships.
