Default HP tuners connection?

I got my HP on Thursday, I went to read the pcm today and I get " cable not found Check connections and make sure key is in the run position". I made all the changes to the com port settings and still I get nothing. Can anyone get me going in the right direction?

is it a USB to serial or laptop serial? if USB make sure the port number is 4 or below (it should allow you to change it)

Check that you have power to the cig lighter
as this line also powers the OBDII port. Blown
fuse is a possible, non-software cause.

My HPT set-up started to get the 'cable not found ' message ,my problem turned out to be the cable that connects the laptop to the enhanced i/o. Changed that cable and it worked fine.

Do you have any device that's known to work
with your COM port? Or is this two virgins in
the dark?

I don't have any other device to work with the com port.I thought it was just cause the settings for the com port were off. It use to say that it was being used when I went to change the settings, now I don't even see that.

Default com port

You should have a terminal program on your computer - Hyperterminal if you are running Win 98. On the DB9 connector connect pins 2 & 3 and pins 7 & 8.
This will connect the transmit to recieve and CTS to RTS.
Set the flow control to none. You should be able to see anything you type. If not your com port is bad.
P.S. Make sure local echo is turned off ( usually default). Before connecting the pins type something and nothing should appear on your screen.

I've had a lot of problems lately with my cable randomly not 'connecting'. I've gotten various error messages. I have noticed that if I have the editor program open I never have a problem connecting with the scanner or with the flash. Weird.

I also randomly have this problem. I can usually just close the program and reopen it and it will work. What bombguy said usually works too.

I never had any connection difficulties with my PCM using AutoTap, EFILive, nor LS1-Edit (three different serial cables). It first began with HPTuners. It could be coincidence, but on the other hand I'm sure there would be more complaints if it affected more users. I had to switch to using a my LS1-Edit serial cable to address my HPT connection problems.

I think first you need to wade through the settings
and determine which COM port is being assigned to
the serial port you're using. Any computer post
"Plug and play" cannot be trusted. It might be putting
the touchpad on COM1 and the IR port on COM2 and
the "real" comm port, your serial, on COM13 or some
such foolishness. You may have to go by process of
elimination somewhat.

Then once you know that (and have it set to the right
bit rate, bits / parity for HPTuners' cable (I think 153600,
8/0 but look it up) you will have to go tell HPTuners what
the COM port is. It automagically detected mine but I
recall having to disable the IR port before the serial on
the back would work. Check the system resources for
any such address or interrupt sharing, this is P&P evilness
that can screw you up.
