Question HPT...is there anywhere to get an un-bias...

opinion of this tool? I realize they are a sponsor here and pay $$$ to be such. I just want to learn more about the company, software code, GA dates on v2.0 and these guy dont seem to have phones. WTF? If they are a real company why dont they have a phone number?

I believe I want to buy their VCM tool but it's like getting blood from a rock to communicate with someone. Is this a few guys in a house writing code? Anyone???

I believe one is in Illinois, one in California, and one in Australia. How much time has elapsed since you sent your e-mail to them?

Even though they don't all work from one building, you would never know! It would be nice to have a phone number but they respond very fast to emails.

These are top notch guys and produce a wonderful scan/tuning tool. Leap and bounds better than LS1 Edit and EFI Live. I had LS1 Edit and switched over to HP Tuner this year, they just make it so much easier to scan/tune with, I can't wait till ver 2.0.

Bill - Have you used EFILive? Per your post you have not. HPT is in NO WAY "leaps and bounds" better that EFILive. In fact I have used both and the HPT scan tool is without question 2nd to EFILive and their tuning software is on par with EFILive.

I am not saying that HPT is not good but your comparison to EFILive does not appear to be based on fact and is not correct.

I agree with your opinion of LS1Edit.

HPTuners rocks. I have a friend with Edit and A-tap. He is going to get HPTuners too after seeing mine. It is well worth the money. I don't normally "rave" about anything like this, but HPTuners is good stuff.

I know a bunch of y'all use this tool but I gotta say its hard for me to shell out $400-700 beans to some outfit that wil not talk over the phone nor refund your purchase...and I quote "No refunds on hardware or software. We offer a 1 year limited warranty on interface hardware defects."

So, you can't talk to anyone, you can't "try and buy" so to speak and if it doesnt live up to the hype, all you can do is try to sell it.

What if the scanner is just as shitty as A-Tap? How many frames does it collect per second w/ lets say 15 PID's?

10/sec at up to 24 PIDs. It does not have the wide/slow (5/sec
@36) that EFILiveV6 had. But all the scanners out there are
limited by the OBDII bus to 10x24 tops. There are other modes
in EFILiveV6 but nothing wider at 10/sec.

The only thing I've noticed that the HPTuners scanner won't
do, that EFILiveV6 did, is the custom PIDs. But I never used
that feature, and so don't miss it. The scanner is good enough
for the job, for me and that's all I care about. I'm not that
excited by feature count, as long as a tool works I can do
without the built-in corkscrew.

I understand why they don't have a phone. It's three guys.
Few hundred happy campers calling you at all hours of the
night (and geographically, it's always night for at least one
of them)? Bet your *** I'd be unlisted. Come to think of it, I
-am- unlisted.

Go to the HPTuners forum if you want a sense of how the
existing customers see things.

"No refunds" is (unfortunately) pretty damn common on any
automotive electrical stuff, not to mention the odds of you
returning any CD, DVD or other software for refund. Try
that at Best Buy or any other retailer? Yeah. Shrink wrap
off, forget it.

Hey! I am in Smyrna. We should hook up sometime so you can check it out...and mine edits 00 f-bodies I traded in my ls1edit 3 weeks ago for hptuners and am very glad I did. It is much easier for me to see exactly where to tune now. Also, it writes much faster than Edit.

Is HPtuners still offering the trade in value on EDIT, Predator, and ATAP that they brought out a few months back or is that gone now ?

If you have a problem with their business model, thats your perogative. Just make sure you're not missin out on a great product solely b/c you have to talk to someone on the phone. Your choice like I said, we'd just hate to see you be disappointed later for poor reasons.

HP Tuners is an awesome product. 100 times better than LS1 edit. I would highly recommend it. Like others have said, you will not be disappointed. BTW they now offer (2) vehicles for the price of (1) and it is NOT limited to a specific VIN. Basically you can tune the whole damn city if you wanted too.

Doesn't EASE scan at like 30-40 frames per sec. and with all GM perameters not just EPA ones?

I'm probably going to buy this tool, but like one guy said, "i have a little problem with their business model". To me they seem "very fishy" in the way they business...but it also seems it's just me from the way y'all responded in this thread. Call me crazy.

Thanks for the info. fellas. I know I'll be back here with lots of really foolish questions after I get it.

ive used their hardware for nearly a year now and it works very well...the fps depends on how many pids your scanning at one time...i usually scan:
rpm
mph
tps
timing
KR
MAF
MAP
STFT
LTFT

and it will take a sample every .06 seconds meaning it will take about 15 samples per second...if i add like 4 more items to take up a total of 15 bites of a max of 24 it will take one sample every .09 seconds or ~11 samples per second with my 650mhz p3 laptop...fwiw once i got it and used it for about a month(version 1.4) i sold my autotap as it aint got **** on the hptuners scanner.
