Default Are there two revisions of Knock sensors for 98 LS1's?

I think I heard somewhere that there were 2 revisions of knock sensors put in 98 ls1's and that one has a problem being to sensitive or picking up false knock or something.

Is that a true statement? If so how can you tell the difference between the two revisions to tell if you have the bad ones?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, there are 2 versions.

1ST DESIGN (WITH GROOVE LOCATING TAB IN CONNECTOR)
2ND DESIGN (WITHOUT GROOVE LOCATING TAB IN CONNECTOR)

I'm pretty sure the second version are the sensors used in the '99 and up model years, and they will solve the constant 4* of knock retard.

Hmmm??? Reason I'm asking is for a friend of mine that I'm working on his tune and seems like it gets a lot of KR for stock tune and timing tables. I adjusted the VE a couple of times and seemed to bring down the KR a little in area's but he still gets a good bit and I was wondering if I should advise him to replace his. He has a 98 TA M6.

There are two versions, very late model 98's have the current design, connector looks like a water bottle as stated above.

Funny you'd mention that constant 4* of knock! I've had it for far too long with my 98.. I was originally planning on holding off until I do an LS6 intake to pull mine and change both sensors over to the newer style but I might seriously reconsider now.. Hrmph.. I also thought originally it was because of an unbalanced ASP pulley.. maybe that wasn't so now..

I have yet to do any VE tuning and I'm going to do some of that within the next weeks.. if that doesn't solve my knock I'm going to switch the sensors.. I also want to make sure I'm not getting any false knock from my Y pipe or anything too..

the 98's peg a constant 4 because the pcm is only allowed to pull 4*. The knock sensors are probably maxed out for whatever reason. Definately do the revision if your car does not have them.

Yeah I was looking at the knock table in HPTuners and that was what it read.. jeez.. I hate KR.. hopefully I'll get it figured out soon.. I need to check my histogram for timing to see where I'm at. For whatever reason the last time I checked it timing spiked as high as 33 and 38 in some places. I bet I screwed up scanning it or something (last value vs. average value?) though.

Thanks for the advice man!
