BTW, I just yanked the AIR system off of my car and left all of the plugs hanging unplugged...and put a Hotcam in($120 first cam... I see why everyone says to go bigger) and NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS!!!! As a matter of fact, I havent had a single check engine light since I've owned this tuner. !EGR, !AIR, !CATS, !Rear02s, LT headers, LS6 Intake, Cam.... and a bunch of dangling plug-ins for old equipment. NO SES lights. Go Vinci...especially if you're a 98

god this is old.lets just say the hpp3 didnt agree with any mods ,but it tells you that in the book that comes with it.wish the vinci was offered then when i got it.
i dont care what any of you guys say when my 98 was stock the hypertech did increase bottom end power.stock it wouldnt spin a tire without powerbraking with rthe hpp3 tune it would spin through most of 2nd gear.i read some guy put it on a 96 z in the thread that had headers and some other stuff,im sure he didnt gain anything its designed to work on a stock setup.i just wished i wouldve got somthin that done more thers nowhere in ,my area that tunes so i have to send off my computer everytime i add somthing else.

So are just bolt on cars good for a hand held or mail order? I know zero about this and there's no way I would ever try and tune my own car. I am scared to take my car to someone who says they know what they are doing but end up burning a hole in a piston.
I have a 00' Firehawk and planning on Lt's, LS6 intake, reverse split cam, 230 range, ported TB, FTRA. Hoping for 390-400 RWHP w/ lots of tourqe.
Is that to much for a hand held or should i trailer it to a shop? I live in southern indiana and I don't know of any shops around that tune. Thanks. I will be keeping an eye on this thread.

No favorite here, but i do know that the hpp3 is pure crap. I had an 00 z28 a4 and when it was cold air and exhaust i put a hypertech on it, long story short i couldnt even power brake it after the hpp3 all the bottom end power was gone, it would just stall up and do nothing, mailorder tune would be best for the price.

There's a comparison of handheld tuners in a 12 page story at;

My car is a street car, '02 C5 6spd. I've added Kooks LT headers/hi-flow catted X-pipe, and Vararam cai. It ran strong, but adding the Diablo Predator tune woke up this car like nothing else. It turned it into an animal.
I adjusted fuel trims, fan settings, etc., as per advise from their website. Although I'm an "old school" do it yourself streetrod guy, I found this handheld tuner to be very user friendly.
I'm not familiar with the other handhelds, but I could not be any happier with my decision to go with the Diablo Predator. Mike

You've helped a lot of people out Lew. I just wish I could use my diablosport with my GM LS6 H/C. I'd love to tune the car myself with the handheld but the unit is limited to the LS1 tuning parameters because of the VIN designation within the PCM.

The reason I bought the Predator was to tune the car myself and that would have worked if I had not installed the GM LS6 heads and cam.
I have contacted the closest CMR compliant speed shops. The quotes were $400 - $500 and the nearest is a two hour drive away. I upgraded my efilive scan only to the commercial license. I think that is the way for me to go now. If all goes well I will have my barely touched Predator up for sale unless there remains a good reason for keeping it? Thanks.

Predator wins hands down. The customer support is great. Newer revisions allow you to datalog to the Predator, or to use the Predator as a pass thru logging device and live stream data to our Dataviewer software. It has ability for to hold up to 5 custom tunes in addition to the canned tunes. The Predator internet updateable, so you can download future updates to the tool at home on your PC rather than having to send it in for updates. I can go on on and on. Thanks Diablosport
