Default So really, why are the 98 PCMs "bad"?

I'm looking at a 98 TA and I've heard that the computers in them are not desired. I plan on running full exhaust, lid, intake, heads, and cam. Possibly a blower later on. Would I be advised to stay away from the 98s?

They are not bad. They just did not have alot of support up till now. Efilive will be available just as soon as beta testing finishes up. That should be sometime this week.

they're not bad as stated, the problem is they were only used in 98s and aren't coded the same way as the newer PCMs.

The newer operating systems are layed out real similar, so it makes it easier to provide tuning support for them ... 98 is only 1 year so unfortuanetly lots of times they get looked at after the 99-02 F-body

Right now there is a pretty decent amount of support for 98s though... HP Tuners, LS1 Edit, Crane/Vinci Handheld. EFILive is coming out soon with it.

So the 98s respond the same as the 99-02s? That's good to hear!

Hi

Actually there is a good hand held now for the 98. That is the Vinci. Also for software, LS1 Edit and I think HP Tuners (if not now, shortly). So you can still tune it no problem.

Yea, we've been supporting 98 PCM's for over a year now.

Customers asked us, and we delivered..

If I had various cars to choose from, I'd go 99+, especially for a blown vehicle (MAF freq range a little more limited). Not that 99+ will help you THAT much more. However, people seem to complain about Knock Retard issues on the '98's as well... another issue for being blown.

There are little headaches here and there for a '98 compared to the others.

My buddy has a blown 98, we cant get the tune right, will there ever be speed density available on HP Tuners?
Is there any way to make a later PCM work on the car?
