Default Will LS1 Edit solve Converter Lock up problems

Have some lockup problems with the converter.Sometimes it's very little,& sometimes it won't lock no matter what.( It's definately PCM related, since it locks everytime with a switch)I'm restalling my Vig shortly & would like to know if LS1 Edit will cure these problems,so I know how high to go with the stall? The higher the stall the more aggravating it will be when it comes out of lock up.If Edit doesn't cure it I may go relatively conservative with stall. If it does cure it then I can do any stall I want

yes it will definately help! mine was doing the lock-unlock thing there for awhile. The reason it does it is because of engine misfire detections.simply turn the misfire detections off and it will be cured! atleast it did for me <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

I think it takes two consecutive misfires for it to acutally trip SES. Many of the diag tests allow a second occurance before failure.

It would be interesting if all it took were one misfire to unlock the converter.

hmmm...

I guess some of the Vigs can be quite stubborn from time to time. What gets me is that the converter always locked up fine till I foolishly went and changed cams. Having autotapped the car several times its definately not the misfires causing the problem for me. No vacuum leaks have been detected so i'm out of ideas. Luckily it doesn't give me any lock-up problems 90% of the time its that other 10% that drives me nuts occassionally. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

I startef having major lockup problems with my PT-4400 right after my head/cam install. I am for sure getting the misfire code and flashing SES light. When I get LS1 Edit later this week I'll let you know if it works.

Wow if one misfire really does takes it out of lock-up these things are TOUCHY.I've never had a SES light or even any pending codes for the misfire.(Stock Cam)Had a slight misfire in one cylinder at idle.Pulled that plug & found the platinum tip missing.Replaced it & haven't seen a misfire since.
I've been through a lot of testing regarding the unlocking problem.Ported maf ends, pending codes,hpp3 trying to correct for other than stock gears, high Ltrims, all contribute to unlocking. But now I don't have any of them in & I'm going thru another rash of unlocking problems.I know this doesn't make any sense but I'm beginning to suspect the ASP underdrive pulley.I had no lockup issues for a long time,& even when I did,I just pulled the maf ends out & it cured it.Now the pulley is the only thing left on the car,& I'm having L/U issues again. Also noticed quite a few guys who were complaining about L/U have an underdrive pulley in thier sig.
So,I'm curious how the tuners & now LS1 Edit can cure this L/U issue

This isn't something converter-specific, so lets right off the bat stop the vultures from turning this into another converter war <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

Misfire detection is definitely one of the conditions which will unlock the converter. Another, which is related to misfire detection can also unlock it -- this is the "rough road" detection, which is also picked up by the crank position sensor. When the PCM detects "misfires" above a certain RPM and MPH, it will unlock the converter to decouple the driveline so it can do a better test for misfire. If it is indeed misfire (counts still rise) then it will act accordingly (fill the accumulator and eventually set the MIL). If the "misfire" goes away, it knows you're on a rough road, and seems to set a time delay to relock the 'verter. Either way, disabling misfire detection will keep it locked up...

I pomise it is a mis-fire detection is the problem, EVEN IF you are not getting the code. I determined this last year. And Have not had a problem with it since. I have been trying to spread the word.

The deal is in auto tap if you read the current total misfires parameter, when it reaches approximately 45 misfires per cycle it will unlock the TC till it reads 2 cyles of zero misfires. A cycle is 2000 revolutions (I think). Just remember its not the SES code that causes the problem. You have to set the misfire detection temps in a way suchh that it nolonger operates.

Try it, I think you will find it solves your delima.

I hope your right because that's easy to deal with using Edit or any other custom tuning. But do you really think that is it,even with my stock cam? It would seem like something is not right with the car if I'm getting that many misfires with a stock cam.As soon as I get the car back from the converter re-stall I will log the misfires on Atap

its not really the cam, its the reduced flywheel effect with the smaller than stock toque converter.

Are you saying that the "reduced flywheel effect" is causing the PCM to detect misfire that really isn't happening?

Thats correct! The computer is FAR too sensitive to what it thinks are misfires.

Just remove the the code that comes up about the trans slippage. That should fix your problem. I forget what its called.

I have turned off the Misfire detection on LS1 Edit and I still have lock-up problems when accerlerating under normal conditions and sometimes while cruising. Is there more than one misfire sensor I should be disabling?

Yes, with LS1 Edit you can set the TCC lock up to occur at any time. LS1Edit will do it.
