WOW! m6's have torque management as well!!!

According to some on the drag racing section, m6's have torque mangement. Is there any truth to this? I have noticed that even with my custom Cartech programmed pcm my timing comes on very slowly at WOT. I only hit 27-28 degrees for a very small rpm window. Most of the time at WOT I am only seeing 24-26 degrees of timing.
I have no knock and my o2's are in a very good range so its not due to lean conditions. I have actually done some comparisons and found that I am actually averaging .7 degrees less timing at every rpm range as compared to my stock programming.
Is this due to this newly discovered m6 torque management?
Any idea of what kind of gains can be found from having a consistent 27/28/29 degrees of timing at wot?
Thanks.

Brian I know Julio only found this out alittle while ago on 02 cars.I guess it applies to other years too.
I bet your down alittle on power.
I would have Joe go in an remove it if u can.
The vette Julio tuned had the problem and they didnt figure it out until after he raced it and they saw what was going on.
Hope u figure it out

Ask someone using LS1-Edit who has an M6 if the Max Torque figure is set at 350stock the way our A4's are.
If so, it should pull timing when you guys shift, just like it does for us A4's.

Man, I just took some ATAp logs and noticed that my timing always starts out a few degree's lower in the first part of the gear. I have never thought anything of it. I will go back and check out my past logs and see if this is true all the time.

I have ATAPed MANY times with a friend who ALWAYS saw -10* of TM in his A4. . .
My car NEVER showed ANY timing drop on ANY shifts. . .
Did I not make enough torque for it to activate?
112mph w/ 3.42 gears in a 3550lb car is surely more than 350 lb/ft of torque.
Maybe the '98s didn't have it?

Raising the max torque value does not eliminate timing retard on the shifts.
You have to go into the torque management tables and modify them to do that.

I have a '98 A4.
Max Torque is set at 350 for the stock PCM values before the TQ Mgt tables start to apply. I currently have it set to 600. I only needed it changed after the Supercharger raised my RWTQ from 356 to 425. A subsequent pulley change, headers and injectors swapped put me at 487 RWTQ.
Before, with Max Tq at 350 and my milder SC'd RWTQ of 425, my car would literally nose-dive at each shift. I could actually see cars that ran side-by-side with me gain ground at each shift.

SJH,
I have no differences in the Abuse Torque Mgmt Table
(Trans/A4 Shift Firmness/Abuse Mode/Torque Reduction)
No differences in the Spark Retard TCS Table
(Eng/Ign/Torque Mgmt/TCS Retard vs RPM)
No differences in the Spark Retard TCS2 (Aggressive) Table
(Eng/Ign/Torque Mgmt/2nd TCS Retard vs RPM)
No differences in the Torque Loss from retard Table
(Eng/Ign/Torque Mgmt/Abuse Mode/Torque Reduction)
Eng/Ign/Torque Mgmt/Max Torque is set to 600 instead of 350.
What else could have eliminated the huge loss of power I experienced between shifts besides the tables I mentioned?
Thanks!

I also have a a4 and so does my buddy.
We already tried this.
There could be something else going on besides just timing for you to see the change?? but if you go ahead and log only timing and rpm you will see your timing still drops on shifts.
Mine is set at 750 and a buddys at 639.

was thinking about this... perhaps it limits the amount of time the spark is reduced?
I know what you mean though, At times the car felt like you turned a switch off to kill the motor for an instant.

Hmmm...
I REALLY wish I could do WOT runs right now.
(Come on 12-bolt!)
I am not much help until my stuff is together right.

even if the M6's do have TM (not sure if they do or not,) i believe when you push in the clutch to shift your timing goes way up (no engine load.) then, when you release the clutch, it puts a load back on the engine. maybe this would cause the PCM to "hunt" for the right timing.

I am not sure if people are getting confused with A4 TCC functions, or difference with a F-body and C5 Corvette function differences but the T.M is used for multi functions, if its for active handling, traction control or protecting the drivetrain.
The C5 MN6 does use torque management and does have an effect when car owner adds mods that increase the max torque. The PCM does not monitor and report Desired and Delivered torque and have yaw sensors for nothing.

f-body does not have active handling, though. the only thing TM could be used for would be traction control. however, since most people race with asr turned off, you would think that would automatically disable any pcm involvement in retarding timing. as far as drivetrain protection on an M6, i dunno.

Stupid question, are those of you getting timing changes taking your foot out of the gas as you shift, and those that arent powershifting?
I would think that lifting off the gas would cause timing changes of some sort

I have Ed Wright programing.he deleted my t.m. on
my 02'ws6.big improvement.shifts hard,and shift
points will change for the better. That was me how
posted on the drag racing forum.deleting t.m. is
good for 2/10's in some cars.
