Where should I put the wideband 02 during dyno tuning? I have been told to remove one of the regular ones and just let it dangle in the air and screw in the wideband into the collector on the header. Will this work? I have heard that there will be problems.
I have had the one in the tail pipe already, but have been told that it is not accurate there due to being far from the engine and if it picks up any leaks in the system.
Anybody have any input on this?????
thanks
Brad

A wideband or factory o2 really needs to be in the exhaust stream for accurate results....I've seen some "theories" that a poorly welded o2 bung can pull the o2 sensor too far out of the exhaust for a proper reading.

I have been thinking about putting a bung in either one of my offroad pipes on the FLP's, or in the y-pipe collecor. I don't want to waiste the $$$ if it won't help or be necessary.Brad

If you want a super accurate job, have a muff shop weld an 02 bung at the end of your header collector away from the primary pipes....this will let it stabilize quick and it must be prior to your cats if you have any...I wouldn't test without the factory o2 hooked up as it would bias your results

I've been thinking about how to get better AFR readings from the wideband. Sticking the sensor in the tail pipe works pretty good, if you don't have cats. However it is pretty far away from the cylinders and cars with cats on it could give inaccurate results. The solution I've been thinking about is you building a "T" fitting that can screw into the stock O2 bung up front. Then the wideband and the stock o2 could connect to the T and read at the same time. More accurate and consistent results. The drawback I see is that the sensors would not be in the "exhaust stream." What do you think?

It should be in the exhaust stream, but the sensors/wideband controllers are corrected for temperature & pressure, so far back in the exhaust can work if the system has no leaks etc.
I've used adapters where the sensor is in a pipe that mounts in the tailpipe itself.
