Default How do I get rid of the Airbag light?

I installed a new Billet Specialties Steering Wheel, and now I have the Airbag light on at all times. How do I get rid of it?

You can use a resistor of the appropriate value (I do not know this of the top of my head, and would highly suggest NOT probing your airbag with a DVM to find out <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> . Hopefully someone who knows will chime in.

The other option is to pull your dash apart and remove the bulb.

It's either a 1ohm or 2ohm resistor, but I can't remember which. Go buy some 1ohm resistors. Try a 1ohm. If that doesn't work, put two 1ohm resistors in series for a total of 2ohms.

Come to think of it now, I believe I ended up with two 1ohm resistors in series.

A pack of 5 should be less than $1.00, BTW.

Thank you guys. I'm going to try this. How exactly do I hook up the resistor? I assume I hook it up to the part that runs to the pcm? Do I make a "U" out of the resistor and put one end into each side? Do I wrap it with electric tape?

TIA!

Yes, just bend the leads so they will fit, and put it in the connector that was plugged into the airbag. You're basically just plugging in a resistance instead of the airbag itself.

Thank you George, I'm gonna give it a go. I'll post back to let you know how it works out!

George:

I put 2 1 ohm resistors together and it didn't work. I couldn't find any 2 ohm so I bought 2.2 ohm resistors and they didn't work either. Any ideas?

A regular wire will probably do the same thing that any of these resistors do, which is shorting out the two pins together.

No ideas really... If I get a chance I'll take a look at mine and find out exactly what I used. It's been awhile since I removed the airbags...

Out of curiosity, did you try the 1ohm resistor by itself?

OK, here's what I have... 2 1ohm resistors soldered together in series (2ohms). Here are a couple of pictures of the passenger side (driver's side is the same, but not as easy to access).

No George, I haven't tried just one 1 ohm resistor. The resistor goes into the female part of the Airbag plug right? How far in did you insert the resistor?

Big Mike, You put the resistors in "series" right? Just making sure, because if you put them in parallel then it becomes a .5 Ohm resistor.

Sorry, I have no helpful hints as I still have stock steering wheel.

Well, I didn't go back in and check the driver side, so I don't remember if it looks exactly like the passenger side in the picture... As far as I remember, there is only one place it can go, though... The resistor is just taking the place of the missing airbag.

If I have a chance, I'll drop the access panel in my car tomorrow and look at what I have on that side to see if it will help.
