Default Wide Band Tuning!!

Is there any benefit to Wide band tuning? I just put 30lb SVO injectors in my car and MTI is getting ready to wide band it..

OH.. BTW.. this is on a 382all bore..

Actually all your dyno or on the road (me) tuning should be with a wideband, if not its pretty much a waste. The stock o2 should not be used to tune at WOT.

Wide band tuning is awesome. Make sure that when it happens thought that you have your LTrims straightened out prior, or after the tuning, learning could richen up your WOT A:F and ruin all your hard spent $$$.

Gary could not have said it better. Stock O2 data at WOT is completely inaccurate. The Wideband is the only way to go if you are serious about optimizing your A/F for your setup.

Persons that tune using stock O2 data at WOT unfortunately don't understand the sensor's functional capabilities (limitations). And unfortunately, there's too many persons that are trying to do this... sigh.

In regards to the wide band o2 sensor...
...obviously they are needed when using LS1 EDIT, however I'm still on stock tuning. This may be a stupid question but would the wide band be beneficial with stock tuning? I do plan on getting LS1 edit in the future...but for now funds dictate that I rely on GM's tuning ability.
Also, is the stock downstream o2 sensor ok to use with wideband 02's up front on stock tuning? I've read about guys using sims...is that on the downstream side?...I'm so confused

You would use a wideband on the dyno if you made mods to the car. With the wideband and pcm logs you would have enough information to change the pcm. If you have no mods or little say air lid, etc, then a wideband is not all that necessary. Normally when you do wideband tuning they just put it in the tail pipe, not very accurate back there but as long as it stabalizes it will work. The stock pcm will not work with a wideband, totally different sensor and everything. Yes some people use simms instead of the back o2 sensors. The back o2 sensors tell the computer wether or not the cats are ok. Also they do control fuel slightly but no enough that a simm or pcm deletion will affect anything.

Hey Gary...Thanks!!!! that cleared up a lot of my confusion. I'm still kinda new to the LS1 "layout" of things. I can rebuild an old small block Chevy with my eyes closed but the newer "stuff" is a lot more intricate. So I gather from your post that the wide bands do NOT stay in the car...they are only used for dyno purposes then the original O2's are hooked back up once the PCM is reprogrammed?

Thanks, Jason
ps: I see you are from Las Cruces...nice place...made several trips to there when I was stationed at Ft. Bliss!

I actually will be running wideband all the time. I have no rear o2 and will be running a Incon Twin Turbo setup. I wont be using a dyno to tune just the open road. Yeah Las Cruces is a nice place, I work out at White Sands Test Facility.

Ah!!!! White sands...spent many a-night out in that desert. Hey...thanks for the insight on the wide bands...I see I have a lot of catching up to do. I remember back in the day ('80's) when all you did was listen to the engine and smell the exhaust to tell if you had it tuned properly
Looks like I'll be dusting off the laptop soon!
