Default ls1edit question, how does it learn your vin#

does the cable learn your vin# when you use it the first time? do you have to tell carputing your vin#? does the sotware learn your vin#. how does that part work, i am trying to get a couple of guys together to buy ls1edit and there are some concerns as to how it learns the multiple vin#'s

The little black box in the middle of the cable connectors reads and stores your vin the first time you read out your stock settings from the PCM. I'm certain that the box will only read/edit the number (1,2, or whatever) of vins you purchased.

It's not VIN locked, it's PCM locked. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Does it lock when you read or when you write?

I noticed that the VIN number didn't lock in until I actually programmed the PCM. It asks if you are sure about the PCM before locking it in.

It only locks the PCM when you Program it the first time not read it.

Now I'm confused <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
I have 2 PCM's for my car. Can I read and program both, since they both have the same VIN , with a single user LS1EDIT <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Also, once you 'lock' on to one PCM &/or VIN, with programming, will I still be able to 'read' and upload a PCM in another car <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

parish8,

No, it won't work <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />
I emailed carputing, & Dave replied back.

LS1-edit locks to a PCM, NOT a VIN <img border="0" alt="[guns]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_guns.gif" />

It locks programming, not reading.
You can always read any LS1 PCM anytime <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> , Dave said <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

i don't know anything about how this works but someone told me you have to get your vin# programed into your pcm if you get a new pcm. so the pcm must have its own number along with the vin#? i see it as a posability that they wouldn't want to tell you if it did work on more than one pcm so they would get their extra $100, $100 is prety cheap though, just spend the extra cash.

i just ordered ls1edit for myself, they told me 3 weeks, going to be a long 3 weeks. anyone know if i ever get another ls1 can i send the cable back and add a second user for only $100? also when they get the 01 and 02 ready to go do you think they will sell one unit that covers all years, 97-02? and is that the 6months of free upgrades they are talking about? anyone see any benifit to paying the extra cash for the extended software upgrade period?
