Idle hunt: to much timing or what??
Usually when i start my car for the first time(cold) after like 20seconds the idle will hunt up and down like 100-200rpms, and then after about a minute it settles to normal idle.
I had this issue before I added 1-2 degrees of timing in the base spark park and drive tables from 400-1200rpms for the cells down to .2
Since ive added this timing warm starts have become much easier! The car doesnt stall anything like it use to before, but the cold start idle hunt is still there for like a minute or so.
LTRIMS and timing at idle are around -7 to -3, while timing is around 19-20 if that helps any
oh and I have a 224/224 .563 114 cam also
DOes your sometimes stall when cold when stoping or backing out? MIne has been doing it since I got my car back. I replaced my temp sensor and it helped alittle with idle hunt(same as yours)and missing. It still wants to stall when cold when I first backup. Just wondering if you have the same problems.

Cool: If i dont wait for that idle hunt to stop when i put her in gear the car will search for IDLE very badly and stall. If I wait for idle hunt to stop(probably 1min) and then put car in gear its fine...
but if I do anything before that idle hunt settles or stops the car will usually surge badly and stall....Ive replaced my temp sensor about 4months ago because it was broken...

You could also try increasing your IAC's. Try 110% at a time.

I would if they had that option avaible on the LS1 edit I have... something about this option not something for this year

Im gonna try raising my park idle a tad bit more. I think its at like 1050 around 0-40 degrees now though. I went ahead and set my idle to 1000 all the way across also and that helped a tad bit. It just makes me sick seeing cam cars idling perfect around 850rpms
I wonder if Edit is planning to release an upgrade regarding the iac park position for our 98's or if we just have to live without it.
With my B1 I set the hot idle to 775 in park & in gear. I wanted it low enough to hear the lope but high enough not to stall.Seems to be perfect. Just have to cure the intermittent hot surging. I'm sure raising the idle a bit more would do it, but I want to hear that lope. I know your cam has a bit more duration than mine, but I'm surprised you need so high of an idle to stop the surging.

That would probably help alot. But I went about 200miles today and i think the car learned alot and got better. I did raise my idle to 1000 but on atap it settles to like 900. I didnt get a warm start stall today at all! I think its just hit or miss with A4's and idle. Some idle perfect with big cams, while some HATE cams LOL

if no iac table you may have to drill TB blade, then adjust the Injector Fuel Constant table to bring in more fuel at the idle speeds. You may also not have enough timing, instead of too much. Key is to experiment with one parameter at a time WITH LOTS OF RELEARN MILES in between. this is one thing i have learn with tuning idle issues. Give each tune plenty of relearn miles, even if it means putting up with hanging idle speeds at coast, intermittent stumble, etc. the long miles DO help a great deal to see what your changes will really yield.

I was wondering if i may me lean at idle, but my ltrims are around -5 to -7 normally. The warm surge has definitly gotten better since I put some LONG miles on her. If I could do it all over I would have given the car atleast a week and some good miles to learn. These cars still amaze me with there learning process
Also I had the car stall on a warm start today and I had to apply some gas to get the car to finally start again.
Didnt someone say that if you have to apply the gas to get the car to start it means something?
also i noticed at the car got warmed the LTRIMS dropped to -3

If LS1Edit had ICA park position for the 98s your problem (and mine) would be solved.
Yesterday I raised timing in park and in drive another 1 degree for a total of 3 degrees in park and 2 degrees in drive and had NO problems with warm starts. There was still about 10s of idle hunting. I have the idle set at 875 in park and 825 in gear.
John
i cant drill the hole anymore since my IAC's are already friggin low
Me and a friend did a little test on it yesterday. We turned the set screw back to stock and the car wouldnt idle or do anything since it wasnt getting enough air so we had to turn it ahead a turn again. But yet on atap when warm my IAC's are around 0-10
