Default what actually happens when you disconnect the IAC?

just wondering. i have heard a few guys do this as a last resort to get their cars to idle. a few have suggested it to me. i think the sensor checks and displays the air intake count.

All it is, is a stepper motor. No check engine lights from unplugging it.

Why diconnect it? Can't they get enough adjustment out of it?
Mine was maxed out on my C5. A P&P Thr. body solved the problem.

It makes the idle VERY inconsistant as well when unplugged.

inconsistent meaning everytime you restart the car it idles at a different rpm? or everytime you stop and the rpms drop, it settles at a different rpm? i have not put many miles on my car since doing this mod so i havent really noticed.

also i unpluged the IAC sensor because i could not get my car to stop surging. here is the link.

With the IAC unplugged you will see the RPM vary with weather, with engine temperature, and in or out of gear. It also doesn't cure surging and stalling like you'de think it would. It just doesn't work so well for a daily driver.

Colonel, it worked very well for 2 years on my car without one SES light from the IAC unplugged. Also, i never seen the rpm very unless I hit the gas pedal. My car would idle rock solid at 900 in and out of gear.

Just my .02

Hmmm, strange. I'd be curious to see if you have a DTC and also what your IAC pintel position counts read.

I could see that under some mod conditions, setting the idle at 900 would cause a consistant idle. I am surprised that there is no searching for rpms when slowing down. By using the IAC's I was able to get my idle down to 760 and with no other after effects. I still don't know why you would disconnect it unless you don't have a way to tune?
