For a 02 car,I would recommend getting a copy of a 98-99 LS1 high octain timing table. There is as much as 10 degree's of difference in the midrange. That will ussually give you a big throttle response(WOT) and torque in the midrange.

You can find the more aggressive 98-00 timing table here.

Once you have the older timing table in your car, you need to taylor it to your car, because every car responds differently to increases in timing.

1) Set your part-throttle timing: Drive around with you new timing table monitoring RPM, MAF, Ignition Advance, Knock Retard. Ensure that you have no knock retard. If you begin to see knock, you will have to reduce you timing table at some calculated points. To calculate which points to reduce timing, apply the following equation

G/cyl = 15* ((MAF*7.56/RPM)) This equation assumes that you are logging MAF in lb/min.

Locate the calculated g/cyl (from the eq above) and the RPM on you timing table. Reducing timing at this point a couple degrees, and 1 point in the surrounding cells. Once finished, head back out on the road, and log again. Repeat this process until you see no KR while driving around.

2) Set WOT timing: WOT timing from the 98-00 PCM is set at 28 degrees. If you are a modified car, particularly the cam, then you may be able to take this higher to roughly 31-32 degrees. WOT timing is all points above .6 g/cyl and 2800 RPM. To increase WOT timing highligh these points (should form a square in the lower right corner of the timing table) and add the desired amount of timing. Be sure to keep the timing reduction at peak torque (4400 to 4800 rpm).

Good Luck,
Kevin

My Ls1Edit is for 01 & 02 it will not read a flash file for a 99. So I will need someone that has a 99 save the high octane table in a file and email it to me. haye9023@bellsouth.net Thank-you, Becky

I can E-mail a basic edit folder from a 01 car that I copied in a 99 high octain table with a few tweeks. This has worked great on a few cars I've been working on.It's a night and day difference <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> But I still recommend what NO GO said above"moniter the knock"

Ok let's make sure I understand. make part throttle timing changes first .6 g/cyl and 2800 RPM and BELOW. Drive and assure no knock. If knock appears apply G/cyl = 15* ((MAF*7.56/RPM)) to only those cells. Log some wot runs and increase timing up to 31-32 degrees or knock which ever comes first. Your last statement is a little vague. Do you mean don't adjust timing at all on the 98-00 table between 4400-4800? Is this close??

GM has already put in a timing reduction at peak torque, just make sure that you maintain the same trend.
Alot of people will set timing at a flat value from 2800 rpm all the way up to 8000 rpm. This will sometimes generate knock from 4400 rpm all the way to redline. The only way to get rid of this kind of 'peak torque' knock is to keep the small reduction in timing that is present at 4400 and 4800 rpm.

I found recently that if your running LS6 Heads like myself (11-1 comp,2.02/1.60 valves)that you might need to lower your timing table.I have no hard facts(dyno#'s) on the power just by going with my knock these Heads do not like as much timing.

I am getting less than acceptable numbers with my current setup. I have 11:1 CR, 5.3L TEA heads and have the timing set at 27 to 30 deg at redline. Slowhawk, what does your timing curve look like w/the higher CR.
TIA!!

I'm going to the dyno today to adjust the timing. So far I'm on a stock 01 table +3 degrees across the range.I'll be trying 26 deg and 28 deg. total while on the dyno.

I know this is an older thread, but I had to comment.

I'm in COMPLETE shock about what I read here...

My HO timing for my truck PEAKS at max torque, around 2,400-3,600 (even at WOT g/cyl ranges)

My .76g/cyl range is usually the highest range I'd hit stock. It is a whopping 21* at the above mentioned peak, and fades out to a massive 12* at 6,000rpm.

I'm having a hard time building a proper HO timing table. I think it's because I'm trying to base timing off of this large midrange bump in timing.

I'm now peaking at 84 g/cyl... so I'd be seeing 17*

I attached the stock HO timing table for a little laugh.

Does anyone have a way to show me something similar from LS1 land?

You would not be too far wrong if you used the Old
Skool Chebby guideline of "30 degrees, all in by 3000".

Here is my table, perhaps a bit aggressive for any
higher compression or heavy-breathers. You can save
it as text and import as delimited (space) text to Excel.
For some reason there appears to be no "insert table"
functionality on this BBS.

AWESOME. Thank you very much.

I wasn't TOO far off with my current (modded) table, actually. I had my full 26-27* rolling in around 3200-3600.
