In addition to the ABS connection, there is a
traction control "brain box", an engine
compartment pulley cluster, and a different
throttle cable arrangement that you have to have
to make the whole contraption work.

And then, most people want to defeat it <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />

Default Quick question about ASR

On my 2002 Z28 I didnt have the option of the ASR. I was wiring up my power cutout last night and i hooked it up to the ASR harness behind the center face plate. in fact it was snapped into the "blank" face for the ASR switch. So our these cars wired for it either way, and they simply dont add the switch if not ordered with it. So could I simple just add in the ASR switch to the wiring harness to "Add" in the ASR feature.

No, you can't use ASR unless you have a 4-channel ABS system. Look at your rear axle: for it to be a 4-channel system, there has to be a wheel speed sensor on both rear wheels. If you have just one sensor going into the center section, then you have a 3-channel system.

Yes and no.

No for the reasons Cal stated because you don't have the actual mechanical hardware for it.

Yes though on the wiring side because GM is now "multiplexing" their wiring systems. This is particularly common on the truck side.

It is cheaper as well as less prone to electrical gremlins to make one wiring harness for all vehicles regardless of optional equipment.

Ok after reading this thread I have of questions!

I got a 4 channel rear end and a 3 channel car. You guys make it sound like I could just change the rear end, run the new brake line and add a new master cylinder to get traction control. I would also have to Install the Servo for the throttle cable, but that shouldnt be very hard. And I would need to add the traction control brain that is under the under the dash board to the left of the steering colummn. I would also have to add the switch.

From what I understand, all the wiring is already in place? And I would just have to plug all these parts in and I would be set to go?

I am also wondering if I would need a new PCM?

Thanks for any help,

Rob

you won't have the plug for the TCS servo, to my knowledge. I have not found it on any of the non TCS/ASR cars i have worked on

you also need the abs module, not the master cylinder (big price difference )

Slow, thanks for the response. I have the ABS module. I purchased it from Tbyrne when he was parting out a Z28. I have purchased pretty much eveything from him, I think. I got the Servo, the TCS Brain, and the Brake adjuster module. I also have a rear end with traction control. I'm going to try and install the new brake lines. And put the rear end in.

Where does this servo you spoke of plug in? And would I be able to install one?

I have been wanting to try and add traction control to my car for some time, so any info is appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

the servo is located behind the battery, it has the 2 cables going into it, and the one going to the TB.

the wiring goes to the wiring harness on the passenger side of the car, it is about 12" long, and in black splitloom, it has a 2 pin metripack connector on the end of it.

On my car, that has TCS, the wiring runs from the wiring harness bundle on that side, to the servo.

Hope that can help you identify if you have it or not.
