Default ran through puddle of water...now problems

I went through a large puddle of water tonight and just afterwards heard a *bzzt* sound...within about 2 minutes, at the stop light, it started idling rough and would barely move unless I gave it ALOT of gas. also when I'd try and drive the SES light would flash on and off. what the hell?! I'm thinking I got wet and fried one of my O2 sims and/or sensors cause there's quite a bit of smoke coming from the back with a smell of fuel.

any other suggestions?

I have Hooker LT headers/ !cats/ Custom 3' y-pipe, and I looked under there and there was a wire hanging down from the area near the collectors (can't believe I never noticed that! ) with water dripping from it.

thanks fellas

-Mike

P.S. it's an A4 car with a verter

update:
ok so I just went to walgreens to check up on it...hoping it dried. started it up....fine....let it idle...fine......backed up.....fine....went down the street a couple minutes...fine....thought to myself "huh...well I'll go back home and ask my dad to follow me back to pick up the car" and turned the corner and it started bucking and dying again :-\ so it's chillin at walgreens again

:-( anyone got anything to suggest?

While since the SES light is flashing you are getting mis fires from one or more cylinders. I have never had that problem before, I would let everything dry out that might be the problem. Right now I can't think of anything else.

Drive it home and park it, and just let it dry out. Then just drive it and let the computer go through its cycles and reset itself. Everything will go back to normal, and all will be fine.

due to the way the car drives, and since it's still wet outside, I have to leave it at walgreeens...I figure a 24/7 place is a better choice. first thing in the morning I'll try again. thanks guys for responding...I'll try it out

After it dries out, I'd make sure all connections between the coils and the plugs are well sealed. That's what sounds like happened. A loose or badly sealed rubber boot to the plug or to the coil. I would highly doubt it's the actual electrical connector (feed) to the coil harness as those are specifically weather sealed connectors.

Definitely let it dry out . . . also double check all of your connections and seals like CMNTMXR57 said before cranking her over

I had this exact same problem last year. I let the car dry out, but it kept popping up, car would start stumbling and stuff. I disconnected my 02 sensor wires and one of the connectors had some condensation in it. Dried it out and no problems sense. So my guess would be something is wet.

some how some way get the car home. buy a can or two of electrical contact cleaner(make sure its non conductive, its a spray can you can find at most auto part stores) and some dielectric grease(also at auto part stores). go through every connection you can find and take it apart, clean it, grease it, and put it back together. do one connector at a time so you you dont forget to snap one back in and get a new problem. itll take some time but it will help prevent this in the future. if it drys out and runs fine thats great but what happens when you got that hot date or a bunch of your friends in your bad *** car and it starts to rain? blow an hour or two and 10 bucks and get that problem settled! good luck!
