Default New Cam safe rev limiter

I have a 00 C5 with a MN6 I am installing the texas speed MS3 cam with PRC dual spring kit. This cam from all the dyno print outs I have seen keeps making power past the 6200 rpm mark. Can I safely rais the rev limiter to 6600? From my research I say yes, I just want a few more yeahs of nehs. What do you guys think its my DD but I most certainly wont be on the rev limiter on a daily basis not even close. Thanks

there is no steadfast answer to this question...there are people that spin their motors to 7000-7200 on a fairly regular basis...how long until something fails? 2 passes? 10 passes? 100 passes? bottom line is you should be fine for a while at 6600 and you'll probably be leaving at least some time on the table setting it that LOW actually, but thats not to say the first time you take it to 6600 it wont break...it all comes down to you gotta pay to play really.

With dual springs, I'd say 6600 is a fairly safe #.

Thats what I have read, that the rod bolts are the week part of the engine. I only plan on making 400rwhp so I think it should not be as much of an issue as springs. I will definitely look into getting some rod bolts for a winter project. Thanks

I have the same cam and spring in my car but it is an A4. My rev limiter is set at 6800, but I shift at 6400. Thankfully I have not had any problems with this setup. Car runs great and I believe the max power on this cam is at 6400 so I don't see any benefit in shifting much higher than that.

See where your dyno curves are. No sense spinning where there's no power. My 06 Z06 went to 7100 but not beneficial in the end.

my 02 C5 (comes factory with better rod bolts) spun to 7000 RPM on a daily basis, and the motor looks BRAND NEW inside upon disassembly after 10000 miles of it.

Default question

I had this same question, before I installed my ms3.
After i put it on the dyno and made three runs, the care never made any more power pass 63-64000 rpm mark. So to answer your question I would put it on a dyno and take it 6500 rpm's and see what it does, if it look like it was still climbing before you let off the gas then go a lil higher the next time, If not then stay there.
