Default False knock?

I had my car tuned by jeremy and the car ran AWSOME for a while....then i started having issues.between 4900-5200 roms iw ould get 4 degrees of knock retard and it would slow the car down a lot and then pick back up. the thing is it doesnt do it all the time. sometimes it will and sometimes it wont. at idle i do get a nasty vibration under the car (bad tranny mount or exhaust i havent checked yet). me and a friend were playing with hp tuners and jeremy isnt running a lot of timing on my car at all. we pulled 4 degrees of timing and it did the same thing. but like i said after adding the 4 degrees back on it would do it then sometimes it wouldnt do it. how can i tell if its false knock?

car is a 98 with a cam and bolt ons. I was told by the previous owner the knock sensors were upgraded but when i was changing the motor a few different people moved the knock sensors around and i dont know how careful they were with them.

I believe people put race gas in and if it still shows knock retard its considered false, someone correct me if I'm wrong because I have not tried it myself.

If you pulled out 4* in the knock area with no change I would think false knock. Try decreasing knock sensitivity. I had a problem with header bang on my old motor giving me false knock.

Do what was said, put in some race fuel and go log. If it persists; well...

3.9 degrees is a KR clip value and can easily be
hit by a few knock detects when you are using
stock attack rate settings. Try cutting the attack
rate values in half and doubling the recovery rate
as well; this reduces the jumpiness and makes it
clear off quicker.

Have you seen any adverse effects to modifying these parameters?

Thanks,

Only that if you do have real persistent ping, you will
"motorboat" along in a light ping condition rather than
squashing it hard and coming out later. Something to
do more for tuning / diagnostic purposes, than as a
general way of life (though this is how I left it). The
more edgy your hardware is, the less I'd recommend
watering down the KR as a permanent thing. But for
unveiling the real goings-on, it's pretty useful.

took the car to jeremys house today...tried to do some street tuning....him and me both came to the conclusion that its a pushrod because of the way its acting....some times it gets KR and sometimes it doesnt but when it doesnt it still false on its face and makes a weird noise. i talked to another friend of mine and he said his did the same thing so im gonna start working on it once i get home...hopefully thats it.
