Question MAF question

In slp's web site there is a notation on this maf that it is only recommened for a stock tuned pcm. Mine is definately not a stock tune. Will i have to have it retuned to use this MAF?

Guy is asking 80 bucks for it. I can get a re-tune for 75 bucks. What would the HP and performance gain be? My TB is stock. IYO is it worth it???

Why would you have to use a stock tune for this new MAF? That doesn't make sense to me, other than the fact that it alone will cause your car to run on the lean side. An above stock tune will typically lean the car out to create some more power. I suppose therein the danger could lie... I probably picked up 15-18rwhp with my tune...just a guess though.

The reason why you should use the stock tune is because that maf has a resistor inline that makes the sensor read a little on the leaner side of fueling.

Most people when they make a performance tune, they lean it out. So, if you have A tune that is leaned out and a maf that makes it even leaner.............. That is not good.

The real thing to do is, Cut out that resister and put in the real maf transfer table for that sensor.

A bigger maf sensor on a stock motor wont make a difference, That is why the leaner mix is needed so then the maf makes it look like it makes you gain power.

Could you elaborate more on what you mean by "The real thing to do is, Cut out that resister and put in the real maf transfer table for that sensor"

Don't lie to your motor. Nothing good is likely to come
of it.

So would you say that since i've had the PCM tuned and i have a stock maf and throttle body that it would be a waste of time changing over to the 85 SLP?

Because your current maf is not a restriction yet. 40 more hp then it would be an issue. The engine is only consuming a certain amount of cfm. As long as the throttlebody and maf flow more cfm than the restriction then it is a waste.

Especially messing with MAFs, trying to fool the VCM by reducing the MAF signal not only leans out the fuel, but also increases timing, amongst other things. Most engines that I tune, after leaning them out often requires reducing the timing.

Humm good point, lying to women gets you into trouble. So lying to a car could also get you in trouble.

The PCM needs sensors, and each sensor should be working right. If you are fittig a sensor to make your car is running leaner, why not just tune it to run leaner and not change the MAF sensor to falsifiy information.

If your current MAF has the same internal diamerter than the aftermarket MAf thne why change? Put it this way, the MAF wont net you more power. You can run the car without MAF and get the same power. Its only a sensor to measure AIR, (one of the main sensors) Just tune the sar with regualr MAF, or perhaps descreen your MAF may net you more airflow, but that debatable, its come up many times, and not seen any facts to say descreening improves performance.

I would say stick with your stock MAF if it works. Invest in a wideband if you havn't already done so, and get the AFR dialed in the way you want it.
