Default IAT dead - no readings

when scanning my IAT in HPtuners it never changes from 36 degrees. i replaced it with a new one and still reads 36 degrees. is there a way to turn OFF the IAT in hptuners that i may have done accidently? how can i test the wiring to the sensor?

That is a funny number, not like what you'd get with an
open (very low temp reading) or short circuit (very high
temp). Maybe it is a fault number resulting from an old
code or something. Are there any such codes showing?

IAT ought to have a volt or two across the sensor if
all is normal. 0V or >=5V would be wrong.

Default thingamajig

figured out what was wrong. take a look at these pics. this was inbetween the sensor end and the harness end. if you look at the one end it does NOT have any connectors in it so it was actually bypassing the iat sensor. hmm. has anybody seen this before? i will ohm it out and see if there is a resister in there. anyhow, after removing it the iat works perfectly. why would the previous owner have done this?

(glare in the third pic are not pins, just camera flash.)

The lower IAT reading makes it run richer. I use resistors in the IAT sometimes here.

Looks like a SLP air temp module.

you're right.

previous owner said there were a few slp mods (lid, fans, exhaust) etc but forget this one i guess. looks like a waste of money, especially with hptuners available.

It makes the pcm run more timing, (more timing, more power) not necessarily richer.

checked it with the voltmeter and it ohm'd out at 8K = 36 degrees F.
