Suprisingly, once you get good with one that'll be the first tool you grab a lot of the times you're troubleshooting stuff.

update: i swapped the coil packs, i put the drivers side on the pass. side and pass. side on drivers side

i go to crank it up and it makes a slight attempt to fire up. i spray a little starting fluid in the TB and it fires right up- after 2 seconds of good rev the idle drops down under 500rpm. i havent yet check the main plug with a voltmeter(waiting on a car to go get one)

you know . . . . if you had a speed density tune (SD Tune) . . .you wouldn't need it

So I'm guessing that you unplugged it . . . started it . . . it runs . . plugged it back in and it killed it ?

yeah for a little while, but if you had a speed density tune, you wouldn't need it at all.

The MAF tells the PCM how much air is coming in . . and that then tells the injectors how much fuel do dump in. You really need to have it.

The IAT sensor is in there as well.

I'm not sure if a truck MAF will work . . . . but you're going to need it regardless

hey on second thought . . . get some brake cleaner and hose it . . . if there's any dirt or oily residue on the screen or diaphragm . . . it reads incorrectly.

Dont start the MAF vs SD debate. I have found that it makes no difference on my car when both are properly dialed in. Due to the size of my cam and the limitations of the 98 PCM, I run without a MAF. The cost of the tune will depend on the tuner and the amount of time required to get it right (which is usually directly proportionate to how radical the setup may be).

good to know you finally fixed the problem but how could a bad maf effect spark?
i could understand if it wasnt starting cause your afrs were all over the place but cant see why you wouldnt have been getting spark
