General 98 pcm tuning question
My question is when I start my cam install is it possible for me to make the same amount of power with the cam and 98pcm or is a 99+ swap really neccesary, also would a tuner charge alot more having to deal with the 98pcm? Any help would be appreciated.
What size of cam?
Do you plan on doing heads in the future?
Dry or wet shot?
Drivability (hot/cold starts, idle coming to a stop, etc.) will take more time (which equals more money) on a heads and large cam style setup on a 98 if you do not have a realtime tuning solution.
HP does not offer one and, the relatively small segment of 97-98 cars does not warrant the cost of a 98 RR for my company.
If you are planning on a larger cam and then heads or a large wet N20 setup then I would consider the swap to be able to attain the drivability with a realtime tuning solution and run a custom OS to pull timing and add fuel from the pcm.
If you are planning on running only up to a relatively moderate cam (no heads) w/ (< ~230 duration) with a small dry shot, then no need for the swap and or extra charge for the tune.
) has mine running like stock. (until you nail it
